We had an incredible time in youth group the other day discussing the life of St. Patrick. At 14 he was taken as a slave to Ireland. There he began praying. His own record is that he would easily pray 100 times throughout the day and as much again at night. From that prayer life, the love of God was shed abroad into his heart for his captors. God eventually led him through a dream to escape to freedom. Eventually he had another dream of the people of Ireland calling him to walk among them again. It reminded me of Paul's Macedonia calling. He returned to Ireland in the power of God, and many were converted to Christ. This clearly was the power of God working through him. I certainly do not deny that we need such an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our day. St. Patrick was able to convert pagan Ireland, through an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in response to prayer, we could revive the nations in the true knowledge of God in Jesus Christ.
