Life’s Unexpected Turns

This past year has been a challenging one for many, including myself. Health issues can come as a surprise, as I experienced when I faced a ruptured aneurysm. It was a moment that tested my faith and reliance on God. In times of crisis, we often find ourselves leaning heavily on the support of friends and family, as well as our faith. The prayers and encouragement of those around us can provide a sense of stability and comfort when we feel most vulnerable.

The Power of Prayer

Prayer is not merely a religious duty; it is a vital lifeline that connects us with God. When we pray for one another, we engage in a powerful act of intercession. Paul emphasizes this in his letters, highlighting the strength that comes from the prayers of others. This year, I have committed to praying for each of you, recognizing the importance of prayer in our spiritual journeys.

Delight vs. Duty

God desires a relationship with us that goes beyond mere obligation. He wants us to delight in Him, to find joy in our pursuit of His presence. When we genuinely seek a relationship with God, our desires align with His, leading to a fulfilling and transformative experience. This Christmas season serves as a reminder of God’s intense desire to be with us, as prophesied by Isaiah: “The Virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel, which means ‘God with us’.” (Matthew 1:23)

Understanding Our Identity in Christ

As we reflect on our relationship with God, we must comprehend our identity as His children. In Ephesians 1, Paul reminds us that we are chosen and adopted as sons and daughters through Jesus Christ. This identity is crucial, especially for those who may feel lonely or disconnected. God designed family, both earthly and spiritual, to provide a sense of belonging and community.

The Divine Consensus

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit orchestrated a plan of salvation for us long before creation. This divine consensus underscores the depth of God’s love and the lengths He would go to have a relationship with us. Understanding this can reshape our perspective on our lives and the challenges we face. We are not alone; God is actively working in our lives, ready to guide and support us.

The Importance of Stewardship

When we talk about stewardship, we often think of managing resources, but it also applies to how we manage our relationship with God. David, as a biblical example, understood the significance of stewarding God’s presence. He prioritized making room for God in his life, recognizing that his success and the well-being of his kingdom depended on it. David’s legacy as a man after God’s own heart is a testament to the power of prioritizing God’s presence.

Creating Space for God

To steward God’s presence effectively, we must create intentional space for Him in our lives. This involves setting aside time for prayer, worship, and reflection. Just as David established a tent for the Ark of the Covenant, we too must build our own “tents” where we can encounter God. This can take many forms—whether through dedicated prayer times, worship gatherings, or quiet moments of solitude.

Overcoming Challenges Through His Presence

Life is filled with challenges, but when we rely on God’s presence, we can face them with confidence. David faced numerous adversities, from battling lions and bears as a shepherd to confronting giants. His success was not due to his strength but his dependence on God. We too can find strength in God’s presence, knowing that He will equip us to overcome any obstacle.

Worship as a Means of Stewardship

Worship is an integral part of stewarding God’s presence. David was a worshiper, and his songs reflected his deep love for God. He understood that worship was not just a ritual but a way to connect with the divine. As we worship, we invite God’s presence into our lives, allowing Him to transform us from the inside out.

Inquiring of the Lord

David frequently inquired of the Lord, seeking guidance and direction. This practice of seeking God’s will is essential for us as well. When faced with decisions or uncertainties, we must take time to sit before the Lord and ask for His wisdom. It is in these moments of stillness that we can hear His voice and receive His guidance.

Living with Expectation

As we approach the new year, we should do so with a sense of expectation. God has great plans for us, and we must be open to the new things He wants to do in our lives. Just as David prepared for the building of the temple, we too must prepare our hearts for what God is about to do. Let us enter 2023 with anticipation, trusting that God is with us and for us.

Conclusion: Responding to God’s Call

In closing, let us remember the importance of making room for God in our lives. He desires to be with us, to guide us, and to fill us with His presence. As we steward this relationship, we will experience transformation, peace, and purpose. May we enter this new year with a renewed commitment to seek Him wholeheartedly, trusting that He will lead us into a future filled with hope and promise.
