The Ultimate Patriot: A Call to True American Patriotism

America was founded by patriots, individuals whose hearts beat with a fervor for freedom and justice. Today, we often celebrate their achievements without truly understanding the beliefs that fueled their actions. These patriots were birthed from a Great Awakening, deeply rooted in their understanding of God’s word. By reconnecting with their original fervor, we can revolutionize our nation once more.

The Heartbeat of the Patriots

The American patriots were driven by a vision that was deeply eschatological. They believed they were ushering in the millennial reign of Christ. This belief framed their fight against tyranny and oppression. They saw their battles not just as political, but as spiritual, fighting against injustices imposed by Britain. A significant fear was that Britain would establish the Anglican Church as the national religion, stifling religious freedom.

Despite being wrong about the timing of Christ’s reign, they were right in their understanding that fighting evil and tyranny was a Christian duty. Their motto, “No king but King Jesus,” echoed their conviction. Today’s globalist movements threaten liberty and justice, offering false promises. The church must awaken to the truth and stand against these deceptions.

The Battle of Ideas

The secularist worldview, driven by Darwin’s idea that we are mere evolved animals, has led to a loss of human dignity and value. This ideology, coupled with survival of the fittest, contradicts the kingdom of God’s principle of servant leadership. It’s a worldview that robs people of moral foundations, leading society into chaos.

If the church does not rise to proclaim the truth, future generations will inherit a world devoid of liberty and justice. Many Christians, ignorant of God’s word, inadvertently support movements that lead to tyranny. True patriotism, as envisioned by the founding fathers, is a virtue necessary for the support of society.

Reviving American Patriotism

Benjamin Rush once said that patriotism is as necessary for society as natural affection is for the family. It’s a love that encompasses not just our neighbors, but future generations. We need a revival of such patriotism to confront today’s societal evils.

Patriotism must not be nationalistic and arrogant, but rooted in faith and service. It’s about reconnecting with the heritage of “No king but King Jesus,” understanding that true freedom comes from Christ alone. This is the patriotism that can change the world.

The Example of Paul: The Ultimate Patriot

The Apostle Paul is an unexpected model of patriotism. Known in hell for his impact, Paul’s life was marked by a bold faith that liberated captives and planted churches. He was a soldier of Christ, unwavering in his mission to storm the gates of hell.

Paul’s life exemplifies the power of love and revelation. He was madly in love with Jesus, driven by a revelation of God’s forgiveness. This love compelled him to spread the gospel, even at great personal cost. His ministry was rooted in a revelation of Jesus Christ, a passion that should drive every Christian.

The Power of Love and Revelation

Paul’s prayer for believers was that they would receive a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God. He desired that they know the power of the resurrection and the authority of Christ’s kingdom. This revelation changes lives and empowers believers to impact the world.

The greatest strategy to change the world is to fall more in love with Jesus. A deeper revelation of His glory and love transforms believers, enabling them to be effective kingdom builders. The world is waiting for the love of God to be revealed through His people.

Continuing the Ministry of Jesus

Paul continued Jesus’s ministry of setting captives free. He was anointed to turn people from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to the power of God. This is the calling of every believer.

God worked unusual miracles through Paul, a testament to the power available to us today. However, true liberation requires a relationship with Jesus, not just a formula. Without Christ, efforts to set the world free will fail.

The Call to Kingdom Patriotism

Paul’s ministry was driven by a love for his fellow Jews, even as he ministered to the Gentiles. His work among the Gentiles was intended to provoke the Jews to jealousy, demonstrating the blessings of the gospel. This vision of transformation is what can provoke change in our world today.

True patriotism is about building nations on the foundation of the gospel. It’s about transforming societies through the power of Christ, not through secular ideologies that lead to tyranny. The world knows the difference when believers are compelled by the love of God.

Fighting the Good Fight

Paul fought the good fight as a soldier of Jesus Christ. He wrestled against spiritual forces, understanding that the battle is not against flesh and blood. His zeal for the Lord’s house consumed him, and he invites us to follow his example.

The church today must awaken to its calling. We must become kingdom patriots, driven by love and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Let us rise to the challenge and transform our world for Christ.
