When Gideon was called to fight against the Midianites, he faced an overwhelming army of 135,000 men with only 32,000 soldiers. If you do the math, that’s less than 25 percent of the enemy’s strength. It seemed like a hopeless situation, but God had a different plan.
God instructed Gideon to send home those who were afraid. As a result, he was left with only 10,000 men. Even then, God said, “That’s still too many.” Ultimately, Gideon ended up with just 300 men to face the vast Midianite army. The odds were 450 to 1, a staggering difference that would make anyone hesitate.
However, God’s intention was clear: He wanted to demonstrate His power. When Gideon and his 300 men defeated the Midianites, there was no doubt that it was God who delivered them. This story reminds us that no matter how daunting our giants may appear, God is bigger than our biggest fears.
