Wellsprings of Living Water
(Sermon Outline)
1) I have a deep conviction in my heart that the Spirit of the Lord is working to birth a great awakening.
a) I have spoken with numerous people who have all had prophetic revelations about this, including numerous people who have had very clear revelations about this region.
b) I also have a deep conviction that every great awakening begins with a revelation from God’s word, because that is a revelation of Jesus that brings transformation.
c) This message is also going to be a shameless plug for our Thursday night Life Group.
d) The power of stories – they shape our values, perceptions and actions – God’s Word!
e) John 4:28–30 (NKJV) 28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.
f) John 4:42 (NKJV) — 42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
g) When we unpack the context, I believe that we will see how this relates to a great awakening.
2) The Woman at the Well
a) When Jesus heard of the Pharisees debate with the disciples of John (end of John 3) he departed. – ARGUMENT VS. ENCOUTER WITH LIFE!
b) “He needed to go through Samaria” – came to Jacob’s well.
c) A Samaritan woman – divine appointment – ask for a drink.
d) Offers living water and after a dialogue – talks about never thirsting again.
e) She asks for the water – HE TELLS HER TO GO CALL HER HUSBAND AND COME HERE.
i) 5 husbands previously and the one she is with now is not her husband.
ii) WHY? MY THEORY
f) He reveals He is the Christ and now the rivers begin to flow!
i) Rivers of living water motivated her to go, not duty! NOT LEGALISM
g) A revelation of Jesus brings personal transformation.
h) Saved from GUILT & SHAME – THE OUTCAST IS NOW AN EVANGELIST
i) The revelation of the heart of God
j) John 3:16–18 (NKJV) — 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
3) New wineskins for new wine
a) I believe that God is trying to birth a revelation that will be a well of living water out of this region.
b) Much of the way we see and interpret scripture comes from deeply ingrained tradition.
c) We often read of challenges the church faced in the past and do not realize that we fight the same challenges in different forms. (The actions are driven by piety).
i) The selling of indulgences.
ii) Self-flagellation
d) Colossians 2:20–23 (NKJV) — 20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations—21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.
i) Appearance of wisdom…no value against the indulgence of the flesh.
ii) Outcomes driven.
iii) Love without hooks. – AUTHENTICITY NOT HYPOCRISY
e) Matthew 23:27–28 (NKJV) — 27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
i) What looks good to men on the outside may not be truly good.
4) IT HAS TO BE ABOUT LIFE TRANSFORMATION – REPRODUCING THE LIFE OF CHRIST
a) As we have been discussing these truths in community, we are already seeing miracles and life transformations!
b) The context of life transformation
i) Authentic Christian community
ii) Authentic Christian friendship
iii) The shameless plug for Life Group.
c) TRANSFORMATION COMES FROM AN ENCOUNTER WITH AND REVELATION OF JESUS!
d) 2 Corinthians 3:17–18 (NKJV) — 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
e) The woman at the well had a revelation of Jesus that brought transformation and sprung up into a great awakening!
f) Wellsprings of Living Water!

Speaker#1:
00:00:00.0 – 00:00:00.649
Amen
Speaker#1:
00:00:01.87 – 00:00:06.409
The title of today’s message is well springs of living water
Speaker#1:
00:00:07.869 – 00:00:10.359
I have a deep conviction in my heart
Speaker#1:
00:00:10.979 – 00:00:15.689
that the spirit of the Lord is working to birth a great awakening
Speaker#1:
00:00:16.59 – 00:00:19.37
And that sounds like a pretty bold statement
Speaker#1:
00:00:19.879 – 00:00:30.579
But I know the things the Lord has shown me and I’ve spoken to others that the Lord has spoken really clearly too in the amount of
Speaker#1:
00:00:31.37 – 00:00:37.229
agreement between the things that the Lord is showing is not coincidental
Speaker#1:
00:00:39.56 – 00:00:47.819
A lot of the people that I’ve spoken to have had actual specific revelations from God about this geographical region
Speaker#1:
00:00:49.33 – 00:00:59.279
And again they were so similar in the details that you just can’t write it off as just imagination and wishful thinking
Speaker#1:
00:01:00.349 – 00:01:14.309
I understand that a lot of times people talk about God is going to move that there’s going to be a revival And a lot of times people feel like we’ve heard this all before and nothing ever seems to happen and nothing ever seems to change
Speaker#1:
00:01:16.05 – 00:01:19.559
But many people here remember the Jesus movement
Speaker#1:
00:01:20.47 – 00:01:25.3
in our church which is a pretty exciting thing that we have people in our church that actually were there
Speaker#1:
00:01:26.239 – 00:01:29.05
Many of us remember the Charismatic Renewal
Speaker#1:
00:01:30.569 – 00:01:36.12
And there are times when the spirit of God starts moving in a manner
Speaker#1:
00:01:36.79 – 00:01:44.66
that is spectacular And I really believe that we are on the brink of God doing something amazing
Speaker#1:
00:01:46.51 – 00:01:51.98
I believe that every great awakening begins with a revelation from God’s Word
Speaker#1:
00:01:52.61 – 00:01:55.849
because it’s a revelation that brings transformation
Speaker#1:
00:01:56.519 – 00:02:03.199
I mean really when you think of even better than revival or awakening is the reformation
Speaker#1:
00:02:03.75 – 00:02:17.1
you know by grace alone through faith alone according to God’s word alone we realize that we’re saved by grace through faith And we found freedom and liberty in Jesus Christ And it was transformational
Speaker#1:
00:02:18.009 – 00:02:38.669
I think a lot of the other moves of God it came when people had a revelation in God’s of God’s Word and it started to transform lives in a way that people took notice and said wow he’s alive He’s real I can see he’s at work because I can see it in the change that I see in the people of God
Speaker#1:
00:02:39.57 – 00:02:42.119
And I believe that God is doing that right now
Speaker#1:
00:02:43.21 – 00:02:48.509
No I won’t lie that this message is also going to be a shameless plug for our Thursday Night life group
Speaker#1:
00:02:51.6 – 00:02:59.91
And we and I actually chucked the message I was going to preach because I thought we need to plug the Thursday Night life group
Speaker#1:
00:03:00.69 – 00:03:03.059
And while we were there on Thursday night
Speaker#1:
00:03:04.309 – 00:03:19.699
it just dawned on me This is the perfect context to frame the thing that the Lord has put in my heart because really a lot of scriptures teach the same thing if that makes sense A revelation of Jesus an encounter with Jesus brings total life transformation
Speaker#1:
00:03:20.479 – 00:03:22.41
I just the truth
Speaker#1:
00:03:23.02 – 00:03:26.929
I also wanted to reconnect with the
Speaker#1:
00:03:27.83 – 00:03:34.99
word that’s been on my heart that we started recently And it is how stories shape lives
Speaker#1:
00:03:36.009 – 00:03:50.199
the stories that we read the stories that we listen to the stories that we watch the stories that we share and that we tell they create our worldview and our values and they shape how we live and how we act
Speaker#1:
00:03:50.979 – 00:03:56.589
And a lot of people are feeding on a lot of stories that don’t bring life they bring death
Speaker#1:
00:03:57.55 – 00:04:03.979
And the story that brings the greatest life and life transformation is found in the Word of God
Speaker#1:
00:04:05.07 – 00:04:10.86
And every other story as it reflects that story brings life and transformation
Speaker#1:
00:04:11.479 – 00:04:17.709
I find it really amazing that Western civilization in many ways was built through Western literature
Speaker#1:
00:04:18.29 – 00:04:28.47
And if you want to talk about the word of God being the fountain of all light because it’s the very voice of God If the spirit quickens it to us
Speaker#1:
00:04:29.07 – 00:04:33.019
but when the spirit doesn’t quicken it to us then it can be dead
Speaker#1:
00:04:33.64 – 00:04:50.63
And that’s what scripture says But when the spirit of God quickens his word it’s total transformation And then you it’s kind of like you have emanations from God’s Word then we have Christian books like the one we gave out for Mother’s Day You know you can see the clear
Speaker#1:
00:04:51.279 – 00:05:06.679
inheritance from the Bible when you read a Christian book But then what you find western civilization was built through fiction where it wasn’t Christian literature but the values and ideas of scripture were
Speaker#1:
00:05:07.67 – 00:05:20.929
the various fountain of that literature Does that make sense And anywhere that the stories that we feed on agree with the word of God they bring life and transformation
Speaker#1:
00:05:22.97 – 00:05:24.35
but they’re still
Speaker#1:
00:05:25.19 – 00:05:26.57
back to the source
Speaker#1:
00:05:27.329 – 00:05:28.529
the word of God
Speaker#1:
00:05:29.279 – 00:05:31.489
So I’m gonna read a story that
Speaker#1:
00:05:32.029 – 00:05:35.98
I believe is a model for a great awakening
Speaker#1:
00:05:37.66 – 00:05:43.149
because I believe we’re going to see a great awakening and I’m gonna read John 4 28 to 30
Speaker#1:
00:05:43.779 – 00:05:55.609
The woman then left her water Pott and went on her way to the city And she said to the men come see a man who told me all things that I ever did Could this be the Christ
Speaker#1:
00:05:56.13 – 00:05:58.779
Then they went out of the city and came to him
Speaker#1:
00:06:00.0 – 00:06:01.589
John 4 42
Speaker#1:
00:06:02.1 – 00:06:12.47
Then they said to the woman Now we believe not because of what you said for We ourselves have heard him and we know that this is indeed the Christ
Speaker#1:
00:06:13.579 – 00:06:15.22
the savior of the world
Speaker#1:
00:06:18.25 – 00:06:20.76
That woman went to a whole city
Speaker#1:
00:06:21.339 – 00:06:31.029
and the whole city listened to this woman and that whole city went out to see Jesus And after they met Jesus and heard his words
Speaker#1:
00:06:32.04 – 00:06:37.459
they said now we know and believe this is the Christ the Savior of the world
Speaker#1:
00:06:38.579 – 00:06:41.899
How quickly did that whole city become transformed
Speaker#1:
00:06:42.5 – 00:06:57.35
That whole city had a great awakening or revival or whatever whatever language you like to use to talk about it all Because one woman first experienced an awakening
Speaker#1:
00:06:59.869 – 00:07:04.69
one woman had an encounter with Jesus one
Speaker#1:
00:07:05.26 – 00:07:07.29
and now the whole city is transformed
Speaker#1:
00:07:08.88 – 00:07:10.22
Do the math on that
Speaker#1:
00:07:11.73 – 00:07:24.32
How many months How many years did that woman pray How many years did she speak to them and try to persuade them and convince them that Jesus is the Christ
Speaker#1:
00:07:26.19 – 00:07:35.559
And a suddenly because she had an encounter and a revelation of Jesus she now had such light
Speaker#1:
00:07:36.619 – 00:07:39.109
and became a living testimony
Speaker#1:
00:07:41.0 – 00:07:42.94
in the most profound way
Speaker#1:
00:07:44.059 – 00:07:46.41
that the whole city took notice
Speaker#1:
00:07:47.63 – 00:07:49.549
and came out to meet Jesus
Speaker#1:
00:07:50.72 – 00:07:56.359
And they also had an encounter because they saw the transformation in this woman
Speaker#1:
00:07:56.91 – 00:07:58.589
as a sign
Speaker#1:
00:07:59.399 – 00:08:04.17
or a miracle of the transformative power of Jesus Christ
Speaker#1:
00:08:05.13 – 00:08:06.929
pretty powerful isn’t it
Speaker#1:
00:08:09.47 – 00:08:20.2
Now what I did There was kind of gave the story out of context And I get that because I wanted to highlight the actual principle of great awakening
Speaker#1:
00:08:20.859 – 00:08:28.359
An encounter with Jesus brings transformation and out of that authentic encounter with Jesus
Speaker#1:
00:08:29.429 – 00:08:34.32
out of an abundance of life because I’ve experienced him
Speaker#1:
00:08:34.94 – 00:08:37.5
a whole city can be transformed like that
Speaker#1:
00:08:39.098 – 00:08:41.07
Don’t think God can’t do it again today
Speaker#1:
00:08:42.848 – 00:08:47.559
and don’t think it has to come from an unbeliever having an encounter with God
Speaker#1:
00:08:48.719 – 00:08:50.44
Any one of us here
Speaker#1:
00:08:51.229 – 00:08:52.059
today
Speaker#1:
00:08:53.26 – 00:08:54.34
this week
Speaker#1:
00:08:55.03 – 00:08:57.28
could have an encounter with God
Speaker#1:
00:08:57.809 – 00:08:59.299
that could change everything
Speaker#1:
00:08:59.82 – 00:09:10.549
into the level of the revelation of Jesus Christ that we receive and it changes our heart you could almost say would be the level that it’s going to make an impact
Speaker#1:
00:09:11.4 – 00:09:13.45
I’ve already been hearing stories
Speaker#1:
00:09:14.039 – 00:09:25.25
in the last couple of weeks about some of the truths that we’re talking about here this morning as people have been putting them into practice how miracles have been happening Isn’t that right
Speaker#1:
00:09:25.78 – 00:09:27.099
And it’s exciting to me
Speaker#1:
00:09:29.049 – 00:09:32.309
So let’s talk a little bit about the woman at the Well
Speaker#1:
00:09:33.84 – 00:09:43.099
the beginning of the story kind of begins at the end of John chapter three because you first have to ask the question what is Jesus doing here in Samaria
Speaker#1:
00:09:44.78 – 00:09:51.71
What is he doing here at the Well I mean he was busy having a wonderful baptizing ministry
Speaker#1:
00:09:52.7 – 00:09:53.89
in Israel
Speaker#1:
00:09:55.13 – 00:10:04.169
And then it says at the end of John chapter three that when Jesus heard of the Pharisees debate with the disciples of John he departed
Speaker#1:
00:10:06.33 – 00:10:13.739
John the baptist was baptizing a whole bunch of people and Jesus and his disciples were baptizing a whole bunch of people
Speaker#1:
00:10:15.159 – 00:10:18.789
And when Jesus heard that the Pharisees were troubling
Speaker#1:
00:10:19.539 – 00:10:22.84
the disciples of John saying hey disciples of John guess what
Speaker#1:
00:10:23.599 – 00:10:27.299
His disciples are baptizing more than you Your disciples are
Speaker#1:
00:10:28.289 – 00:10:36.059
trying to sow division trying to sow controversy trying to get into debate trying to get into an argument
Speaker#1:
00:10:38.289 – 00:10:40.75
And the disciples of John got into the argument
Speaker#1:
00:10:43.719 – 00:10:48.03
and John gave a great response He must increase and I must decrease
Speaker#1:
00:10:49.0 – 00:11:00.679
But Jesus just wanders off time to go Why Because people need to have an encounter with me an encounter with life not an argument
Speaker#1:
00:11:01.7 – 00:11:03.929
or an intellectual debate
Speaker#1:
00:11:04.619 – 00:11:05.89
Interesting isn’t it
Speaker#1:
00:11:07.46 – 00:11:18.7
And so Jesus says I we I have need to go through Samaria I have to go through Samaria And that was the first thing that caught my attention like well no you didn’t
Speaker#1:
00:11:19.549 – 00:11:33.739
you didn’t have to go through Samaria when you look at it one way Well what do you mean Well the Jews know how unclean Samaria is We can’t have anything to do with those Samaritans So we will go all the way around Samaria
Speaker#1:
00:11:34.609 – 00:11:37.179
But Jesus goes right through Samaria
Speaker#1:
00:11:37.76 – 00:11:40.21
I need to go through Samaria
Speaker#1:
00:11:41.549 – 00:11:43.609
Well why do you need to go through Samaria
Speaker#1:
00:11:44.64 – 00:11:46.419
Because the father’s heart
Speaker#1:
00:11:47.34 – 00:11:49.38
is going to bring a great awakening
Speaker#1:
00:11:51.39 – 00:11:54.109
not just to a city but first to a woman
Speaker#1:
00:11:56.52 – 00:11:58.38
I need to go meet with this woman
Speaker#1:
00:12:02.419 – 00:12:04.039
and it was a divine appointment
Speaker#1:
00:12:04.869 – 00:12:06.679
And whether is that Jacobs Well
Speaker#1:
00:12:08.09 – 00:12:09.77
this woman comes
Speaker#1:
00:12:10.52 – 00:12:13.25
in Jesus the scripture tells us was thirsty
Speaker#1:
00:12:14.95 – 00:12:35.369
But in that moment he heard the father in that moment his compassion was awakened In that moment he could see I mean he could see from the context as pastor Mike brought out in the last couple of weeks she was coming to the well at a time that only an outcast would come somebody who was not part of the greater community
Speaker#1:
00:12:36.65 – 00:12:44.159
So just from that he could have known But I think that even more than that he knew he could see the continence on that woman
Speaker#1:
00:12:46.059 – 00:12:55.46
When somebody walks in the presence of God and walks in the love of God you can see Brokenness and your heart goes out with compassion
Speaker#1:
00:12:56.299 – 00:12:57.669
not judgmentalism
Speaker#1:
00:12:59.88 – 00:13:01.359
And so Jesus
Speaker#1:
00:13:02.039 – 00:13:03.719
asks her for a drink
Speaker#1:
00:13:04.799 – 00:13:07.08
and she can tell he’s a rabbi
Speaker#1:
00:13:08.159 – 00:13:10.599
and she’s like how is it that you being a Jew
Speaker#1:
00:13:11.359 – 00:13:14.739
are asking me for a drink because it was provocative
Speaker#1:
00:13:15.38 – 00:13:20.289
She was a woman He was a man and they were alone Somebody forgot to tell Jesus the rules
Speaker#1:
00:13:23.429 – 00:13:25.659
but he starts up a conversation with her
Speaker#1:
00:13:29.27 – 00:13:38.469
And as he gets into that conversation he said if you knew who it was who asked you to give me a drink you would have asked him and he would have given you living waters
Speaker#1:
00:13:39.14 – 00:13:40.119
huh
Speaker#1:
00:13:40.63 – 00:13:50.02
Whoever drinks of this water from this well will thirst again But whoever drinks the water that I shall give will never thirst again
Speaker#1:
00:13:51.2 – 00:14:02.89
And that that whole word I could get sidetracked in a rabbit trail because that is such a profound and weighty word isn’t it But it is the truth that when we drink of the Holy Spirit
Speaker#1:
00:14:04.07 – 00:14:10.969
when we drink of his presence We find the deepest level satisfaction
Speaker#1:
00:14:12.409 – 00:14:25.179
We find the greatest dignity and self worth We find the it it really is Well said it is a pearl of great price or a treasure hidden in a field that when you find it you sell all you have to possess it
Speaker#1:
00:14:26.45 – 00:14:39.95
because it’s just like the light turning on and the darkness You know it’s like all the colors and beauty and it’s like passing from death to life It is so good to know him
Speaker#1:
00:14:40.719 – 00:14:44.659
and to experience him and have a relationship with him
Speaker#1:
00:14:46.809 – 00:14:48.46
It’s transformative
Speaker#1:
00:14:50.5 – 00:14:52.349
But I mean I could also just say
Speaker#1:
00:14:54.03 – 00:15:02.34
the whole idea of never having to drink water again is a good curiosity isn’t it And so she said give me some of this water
Speaker#1:
00:15:05.45 – 00:15:21.929
give me some of this water Sure I’ll take some of this water maybe say water that you’ll never have to drink from again Sure Give me some of this water I mean you really can’t tell from scripture what the spirit of what was said was we just get the literal words But
Speaker#1:
00:15:22.489 – 00:15:29.979
I think either one would be is probably accurate Like yes let me have some of that water like yeah let me have some of that water
Speaker#1:
00:15:32.38 – 00:15:35.359
And what Jesus said to her was so profound
Speaker#1:
00:15:36.76 – 00:15:38.729
go call your husband and come here
Speaker#1:
00:15:43.03 – 00:15:45.96
and she says I don’t have a husband
Speaker#1:
00:15:46.719 – 00:15:54.01
And he said well said you don’t have a husband You’ve had five husbands and the man you’re with now is not your husband
Speaker#1:
00:15:57.44 – 00:15:59.75
It’s that point
Speaker#1:
00:16:01.57 – 00:16:10.619
of how we interpret that part of the encounter that I believe is where the changing of the wine skin is happening
Speaker#1:
00:16:11.58 – 00:16:13.58
so that new wine can be poured out
Speaker#1:
00:16:17.95 – 00:16:29.479
A lot of the ways we perceive scripture a lot of the ways that we relate to one another A lot of the ways we present the gospel comes from inherited traditions
Speaker#1:
00:16:31.07 – 00:16:36.619
We might not even realize their inherited traditions because they’re so deeply ingrained
Speaker#1:
00:16:37.84 – 00:16:42.76
And so one of the traditions is that he is calling out her sin
Speaker#1:
00:16:46.71 – 00:16:49.859
You want the living water first I need to make you feel really bad
Speaker#1:
00:16:51.049 – 00:16:54.15
I need to point out how sinful and wretched you are
Speaker#1:
00:16:56.309 – 00:17:00.0
but he never talks about forgiveness or anything else in this passage Does he
Speaker#1:
00:17:00.64 – 00:17:07.91
there’s no this encounter created the transformation in her
Speaker#1:
00:17:08.77 – 00:17:12.568
Now I believe that what we were seeing was a word of knowledge
Speaker#1:
00:17:13.719 – 00:17:20.828
And I really when I read a lot of the passages of scripture I believe that Jesus operated this way often
Speaker#1:
00:17:21.458 – 00:17:26.088
Like when another woman says you know is asking Jesus for healing
Speaker#1:
00:17:26.818 – 00:17:32.04
and he says to the woman it’s not good to give the children’s bread to dogs
Speaker#1:
00:17:33.17 – 00:17:37.339
One you’re like wow Jesus you’re mean right
Speaker#1:
00:17:37.939 – 00:17:49.75
But I think when I study scripture that what Jesus is doing is he knows that people usually have an angel on one side and a devil on the other What do you mean
Speaker#1:
00:17:50.449 – 00:17:58.849
Hey have you heard about the angel Hey have you heard about Jesus Yeah he’s healing people Yeah He’s a Jewish rabbi
Speaker#1:
00:17:59.42 – 00:18:01.78
He could heal you
Speaker#1:
00:18:03.069 – 00:18:04.339
He’s speaking well
Speaker#1:
00:18:05.229 – 00:18:13.42
Then the devil he won’t heal you You’re no good You have no worth You’re a gentile
Speaker#1:
00:18:15.229 – 00:18:20.15
And so they she’s wrestling with the truth and the lie
Speaker#1:
00:18:20.839 – 00:18:22.069
Do you see what I’m saying
Speaker#1:
00:18:22.91 – 00:18:25.369
But she does the right thing She comes to Jesus
Speaker#1:
00:18:26.39 – 00:18:35.02
And I think when Jesus said that he was giving voice to what she was saying in her heart this wrestling between
Speaker#1:
00:18:36.41 – 00:18:50.859
a conversation she was already having and she he Jesus voiced what she was wrestling with and then she voiced but yes even the dogs eat the scraps She was voicing her little piece of hope
Speaker#1:
00:18:51.689 – 00:18:54.489
that maybe Jesus would be different
Speaker#1:
00:18:56.859 – 00:19:01.569
And sure enough her hope did not disappoint
Speaker#1:
00:19:03.219 – 00:19:05.42
He was giving her a revelation
Speaker#1:
00:19:06.0 – 00:19:10.15
of the character and nature of God He wasn’t being a jerk
Speaker#1:
00:19:11.51 – 00:19:13.609
And I think that’s what was happening here
Speaker#1:
00:19:14.25 – 00:19:41.849
This woman came to the well she was already an outcast She had been with five husbands and now I I’m not even gonna get bothered bothered to get married again because they’ve all failed I don’t know what’s going on But I know she already felt guilt and shame She had been living under guilt and shame She did not need to be made to feel more guilty and to experience more shame
Speaker#1:
00:19:43.699 – 00:19:48.67
But I think the Lord gave that word to let her know I know you
Speaker#1:
00:19:49.199 – 00:19:50.68
and I’m here talking with you
Speaker#1:
00:19:51.979 – 00:19:55.39
I know you I know everything you’ve done
Speaker#1:
00:19:56.069 – 00:19:57.109
but I love you
Speaker#1:
00:19:58.859 – 00:20:01.27
And if you will receive this revelation
Speaker#1:
00:20:02.14 – 00:20:03.329
of the Father
Speaker#1:
00:20:04.729 – 00:20:06.76
it will transform your whole life
Speaker#1:
00:20:07.729 – 00:20:12.209
And then they kind of have a little more dialogue and encounter
Speaker#1:
00:20:18.839 – 00:20:20.969
He doesn’t hardly do this anywhere
Speaker#1:
00:20:21.52 – 00:20:22.949
But for this woman
Speaker#1:
00:20:23.739 – 00:20:25.969
we know when the Christ comes
Speaker#1:
00:20:28.17 – 00:20:31.229
he who speaks to you is he
Speaker#1:
00:20:34.319 – 00:20:35.13
boom
Speaker#1:
00:20:35.93 – 00:20:39.359
This woman who was an outcast who lived in so much shame
Speaker#1:
00:20:41.42 – 00:20:44.92
She leaves her water pot and runs into the city
Speaker#1:
00:20:46.609 – 00:20:53.68
She had just experienced the breaking of guilt and shame in her life by how Jesus received her
Speaker#1:
00:20:54.589 – 00:21:16.43
And she is so overflowing with this encounter with Jesus that living water is now flowing from her It’s that wellspring of living water even though the Holy Spirit has not yet fully been poured out this encounter with Jesus changed everything And now the people in the city see the woman coming who normally would have been too ashamed to show her face
Speaker#1:
00:21:19.869 – 00:21:28.05
Here is this woman coming and they can see her whole continent has changed The guilt is gone The shame is gone
Speaker#1:
00:21:28.859 – 00:21:32.119
When you’re ashamed you don’t want to have any contact with anyone
Speaker#1:
00:21:32.63 – 00:21:36.93
When you’re ashamed you don’t have real depth of friendship and relationship
Speaker#1:
00:21:37.79 – 00:21:43.209
When you have shame you want to isolate and disconnect and keep everybody at arm’s length
Speaker#1:
00:21:44.569 – 00:21:56.18
But in that encounter with Jesus her guilt and shame was broken And it was such a blessing in her life that she had to share it with somebody She has to share it with everybody
Speaker#1:
00:21:56.829 – 00:22:04.099
It wasn’t Well now that you know that I’m the Christ now it’s your moral obligation to go and tell everybody that you know that I am the Christ
Speaker#1:
00:22:05.14 – 00:22:09.479
driven by the law driven by legalism
Speaker#1:
00:22:10.329 – 00:22:14.18
You didn’t go and tell everybody you should feel bad
Speaker#1:
00:22:15.569 – 00:22:20.29
We’re seeing an image of how living water flows
Speaker#1:
00:22:24.369 – 00:22:26.41
so different
Speaker#1:
00:22:27.02 – 00:22:47.66
an encounter with Jesus where the love of God filled her heart and she went he didn’t tell her to go She went she couldn’t contain it I’m overflowing I got to go tell everybody We found that Christ is so exciting and she was so transformed She doesn’t even realize I should be ashamed to go talk to these people
Speaker#1:
00:22:48.359 – 00:23:01.119
If he has forgiven me I am forgiven If he’s not ashamed of me then my shame is gone because the only one who matters has received me
Speaker#1:
00:23:02.01 – 00:23:04.77
And I just want them to know the same Jesus that I know
Speaker#1:
00:23:05.28 – 00:23:24.81
I want them to experience the same love of God in Jesus Christ I want them to have the same encounter that I have had This is an awakening this is revival This is rivers of living water beginning to flow the wells being unstopped It’s a completely different church
Speaker#1:
00:23:25.42 – 00:23:32.89
than a church driven by legalism driven by fear driven by guilt driven by even duty
Speaker#1:
00:23:34.579 – 00:23:40.14
It’s a church driven by the love of God has possessed our hearts and we cannot contain it
Speaker#1:
00:23:43.359 – 00:23:50.359
And it all the epicenter is how do we see Jesus dealt with this woman at the well
Speaker#1:
00:23:51.239 – 00:23:53.479
to awaken those rivers of living water
Speaker#1:
00:23:54.109 – 00:23:55.739
It’s pretty wild isn’t it
Speaker#1:
00:23:56.689 – 00:23:58.979
It’s a revelation of the heart of God
Speaker#1:
00:23:59.56 – 00:24:09.8
And and I really find that exciting because when we began the book of John there it was John 3 16 through 18 the most well known scripture in the Bible
Speaker#1:
00:24:10.78 – 00:24:36.02
So well known that we all have it memorized but it’s good to read again for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved He who believes in Him is not condemned
Speaker#1:
00:24:36.189 – 00:24:44.719
but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God
Speaker#1:
00:24:52.06 – 00:24:55.66
There’s a reason why that is the most popular scripture
Speaker#1:
00:24:57.209 – 00:25:00.0
It speaks to the very heart of God doesn’t it
Speaker#1:
00:25:01.569 – 00:25:03.77
The greatest event Well
Speaker#1:
00:25:05.01 – 00:25:14.329
the greatest events in history were all around the life of Jesus One of the greatest events in history was the incarnation
Speaker#1:
00:25:15.359 – 00:25:19.77
but this is not the only talking about the incarnation it’s also talking about the crucifixion
Speaker#1:
00:25:20.439 – 00:25:23.55
God so loved the world
Speaker#1:
00:25:24.349 – 00:25:26.579
that he gave his only begotten son
Speaker#1:
00:25:28.63 – 00:25:32.9
While we were yet enemies Christ died for us
Speaker#1:
00:25:33.64 – 00:25:36.92
to let the weight of that message sink in
Speaker#1:
00:25:38.52 – 00:25:58.969
We we can look at the world we can look out at the world everything that’s happening in the world Look at all the people in the world look at the people in our lives and we can get focused on the negatives We can join the accuser of the brethren the great fault finder The one who finds wrong in everything
Speaker#1:
00:26:02.589 – 00:26:05.729
God chooses to remember the good
Speaker#1:
00:26:06.979 – 00:26:15.109
and forget what is wrong to cover faults and love And he looked down on this broken mess of humanity
Speaker#1:
00:26:15.719 – 00:26:24.01
and he saw what we read here A condemned building What do you mean It’s dilapidated it’s falling apart They’re perishing
Speaker#1:
00:26:24.819 – 00:26:33.829
They are already perishing before I sent my son they are falling to pieces condemned It’s a condemned house right
Speaker#1:
00:26:34.56 – 00:26:41.28
He did not come to this world to dilapidate the house He didn’t come into the world to condemn it
Speaker#1:
00:26:42.78 – 00:26:47.209
He came to save it and he’s the only way that they might be saved
Speaker#1:
00:26:48.51 – 00:26:52.91
And God looked at these people that were trashing the house
Speaker#1:
00:26:54.15 – 00:26:55.869
and he saw something
Speaker#1:
00:26:56.969 – 00:26:58.06
worth loving
Speaker#1:
00:26:58.989 – 00:27:06.109
He saw something that was worth loving and he found so valuable that he said I will give my only son
Speaker#1:
00:27:07.55 – 00:27:08.699
to redeem them
Speaker#1:
00:27:10.91 – 00:27:14.31
Please get this love into your heart
Speaker#1:
00:27:15.9 – 00:27:22.949
because this is the kind of love that breaks through the darkness of the world that is out there
Speaker#1:
00:27:24.459 – 00:27:27.63
This is the love that tears down walls
Speaker#1:
00:27:28.219 – 00:27:31.079
that sets at liberty the captive that
Speaker#1:
00:27:31.989 – 00:27:39.089
brings that total life transformation He so loved the world that he gave his only son
Speaker#1:
00:27:39.89 – 00:27:43.9
And we see it there at that woman at the well he loved her
Speaker#1:
00:27:44.829 – 00:27:47.38
and he called her from death to life
Speaker#1:
00:27:48.14 – 00:27:51.349
It’s beautiful isn’t it It’s beautiful
Speaker#1:
00:27:52.109 – 00:27:55.65
And and that’s what we see John starts the gospel that way
Speaker#1:
00:27:58.03 – 00:28:01.229
And then he tells stories that flesh it out
Speaker#1:
00:28:02.31 – 00:28:06.619
If we can read it under the heart of God in the grace of God
Speaker#1:
00:28:09.359 – 00:28:14.109
I believe that God is creating new wine skins for new wine
Speaker#1:
00:28:15.25 – 00:28:25.06
that he’s trying to be a revelation of the grace of God that will become a well of living water flowing out of this region
Speaker#1:
00:28:27.79 – 00:28:37.199
I’ve already seen it as we’ve been talking about these truths People have told me what has happened in their life and it’s been nothing short of miraculous
Speaker#1:
00:28:37.819 – 00:28:44.65
instead of bringing judgmentalism instead of bringing criticism instead of bringing fault
Speaker#1:
00:28:47.729 – 00:28:49.31
and you’re not good enough
Speaker#1:
00:28:52.069 – 00:28:56.18
and you should be ashamed of yourself And you are the problem
Speaker#1:
00:28:56.699 – 00:28:59.739
Simple things like when Mike told somebody I love you brother
Speaker#1:
00:29:00.91 – 00:29:03.569
and it started a snowball rolling hasn’t it
Speaker#1:
00:29:04.39 – 00:29:06.54
Pastor David telling stories
Speaker#1:
00:29:07.859 – 00:29:12.329
about how this has been bringing transformation and changing cultures
Speaker#1:
00:29:13.02 – 00:29:15.02
in our in our lives
Speaker#1:
00:29:15.599 – 00:29:17.68
This truth of the heart of God
Speaker#1:
00:29:18.65 – 00:29:39.31
that can look into this world and see something worth dying for something worth loving something of value even in the dirt admire of fallen humanity God put that heart into us put that love into us Lord God teach us to love Well
Speaker#1:
00:29:39.68 – 00:29:49.53
teach us to have compassion and mercy and grace and teach us how to overflow with rivers of living water so that we would go
Speaker#1:
00:29:51.319 – 00:29:55.8
and bring an awakening so that others can know him too
Speaker#1:
00:29:57.68 – 00:30:10.41
As I was saying earlier much of the way that we see interpret scripture comes from deeply ingrained traditions We often read of the challenges the church has faced in the past and sometimes even the Old Testament believers don’t we
Speaker#1:
00:30:11.28 – 00:30:15.81
And we do not realize that we fight the same challenges today in different forms
Speaker#1:
00:30:17.079 – 00:30:21.859
And we were talking about this on Thursday night It it I’ve always found it intriguing
Speaker#1:
00:30:22.369 – 00:30:50.699
you like when we talk about the selling of indulgences one of the great stories of history the reformation of the church right When the coin in the coffer rings a soul out of purgatory springs What are you doing Well somebody bought a position and we need to build a Sistine chapel So we’re raising money through manipulation through fear through intimidation through control through things that are out of bounds things that are contrary to the kingdom
Speaker#1:
00:30:51.52 – 00:30:53.829
and a monk is so provoked
Speaker#1:
00:30:55.089 – 00:30:56.369
that it lights a fire
Speaker#1:
00:30:58.05 – 00:31:01.64
But do you ever ask why did this work with the people
Speaker#1:
00:31:02.969 – 00:31:06.9
because they wanted to be express their devotion to God
Speaker#1:
00:31:09.76 – 00:31:12.28
That’s the part that’s often missed
Speaker#1:
00:31:13.92 – 00:31:16.8
They wanted to express their devotion to God
Speaker#1:
00:31:17.599 – 00:31:29.079
And you can you know when you start to think about how the selling of indulgences becomes easy grace how we we bought our indulgence we can go do what we want
Speaker#1:
00:31:29.88 – 00:31:31.5
And then we see today
Speaker#1:
00:31:32.18 – 00:31:34.449
I’ve been saved I can do what I want
Speaker#1:
00:31:36.469 – 00:31:38.069
We we have the same
Speaker#1:
00:31:38.869 – 00:31:42.79
challenges facing the church today It hasn’t changed
Speaker#1:
00:31:43.3 – 00:31:48.319
And the one that we were really talking about on Thursday was self flagellation
Speaker#1:
00:31:49.189 – 00:31:54.43
You know where a monk would get down on his knees have a bare back get a whip and whip it until it bleeds
Speaker#1:
00:31:55.579 – 00:32:14.989
doing penance for his sins because I have to feel really bad about my sin I have to show God how bad I really feel and how awful I feel and I have to be beaten up really bad for my sin
Speaker#1:
00:32:16.05 – 00:32:20.93
And we and we look at that and we go are you kidding me
Speaker#1:
00:32:21.449 – 00:32:22.839
You’re missing it monk
Speaker#1:
00:32:24.06 – 00:32:33.41
You don’t get it You’re missing the heart of God You’re missing the heart of grace You’re missing what Christ has done Rivers of living water are not flowing out of that
Speaker#1:
00:32:36.0 – 00:32:38.93
But then but it was but it was driven by piety
Speaker#1:
00:32:39.52 – 00:32:56.699
Do you see what I’m saying Driven by piety It was sincere 100% sincere But if you want to take a cup and get some water from it You’re not going to find any there’s no living water out of that And you say well what’s your point We do the same thing with ourselves and with each other
Speaker#1:
00:32:57.5 – 00:33:08.439
If I don’t beat you up really bad about your sin and make you feel really bad and don’t even guilt you and condemn you and manipulate you into acting better
Speaker#1:
00:33:09.04 – 00:33:11.439
Then we haven’t had church
Speaker#1:
00:33:12.689 – 00:33:18.719
and we don’t realize that where you become addicted to the very same experiences
Speaker#1:
00:33:19.51 – 00:33:29.78
it is just shown up in another form And then if we don’t get that experience that makes us feel like we’ve done our duty then we feel like we haven’t done church
Speaker#1:
00:33:31.18 – 00:33:38.739
But that has never changed the world It never gave us a woman at the well it never turned around a whole city in the snap of a finger
Speaker#1:
00:33:40.02 – 00:33:41.839
But that’s what we do don’t we
Speaker#1:
00:33:42.489 – 00:33:59.229
And as we’ve been talking about these ideas people have been telling more and more stories like on Thursday again a pastor who started hearing these truths and he started what what he said is well if I actually trust grace
Speaker#1:
00:34:00.459 – 00:34:07.67
and let people exhibit free will and make their own choices then they’re gonna go sinning
Speaker#1:
00:34:08.979 – 00:34:10.82
I’ve got to control them
Speaker#1:
00:34:12.158 – 00:34:14.128
I gotta keep them in line
Speaker#1:
00:34:16.33 – 00:34:19.8
But he became convinced by the word of God and did different
Speaker#1:
00:34:20.648 – 00:34:22.439
and they went about sinning
Speaker#1:
00:34:23.469 – 00:34:24.908
and then he realized
Speaker#1:
00:34:25.689 – 00:34:27.628
this was in their heart all along
Speaker#1:
00:34:29.199 – 00:34:34.11
All he did was make a white washed supper
Speaker#1:
00:34:35.449 – 00:34:39.09
We like things to look good on the outside
Speaker#1:
00:34:39.79 – 00:34:42.55
When inwardly they’re full of dead men bones
Speaker#1:
00:34:43.34 – 00:34:44.949
I’ll read that a little later
Speaker#1:
00:34:46.02 – 00:34:49.479
But I want to read Colossians two 21st
Speaker#1:
00:34:50.36 – 00:35:11.689
Because what we’re talking about is living under the Principalities and powers We’re talking about living under bondage and in slavery command cultures authoritarianism externals making ourselves feeling good feel good because we’ve kept the rules but there’s no living water
Speaker#1:
00:35:12.5 – 00:35:36.659
Colossians 2 20 to 23 Therefore if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world why is though living in the world do you subject yourselves to regulations Do not touch do not taste do not handle which all concern the things which perish with the using according to the commandments and doctrines of men These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom
Speaker#1:
00:35:36.879 – 00:35:46.31
in self imposed religion false humility and neglect of the body but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh
Speaker#1:
00:35:47.33 – 00:35:58.139
Wasn’t that what I was just talking about God wants to break us out of the old wine skins that make us feel good by feeling really bad
Speaker#1:
00:36:00.59 – 00:36:02.62
and get hold of the heart of God
Speaker#1:
00:36:03.87 – 00:36:05.57
And it is offensive
Speaker#1:
00:36:06.27 – 00:36:12.31
It’s offensive I won’t lie It’s offensive but we have to really trust God don’t we
Speaker#1:
00:36:13.199 – 00:36:22.62
God has to work for a person to be born again They have to be begotten of imperishable Seed that’s his seed Not ours
Speaker#1:
00:36:24.409 – 00:36:31.79
Once they are born again they become his Children Ok People who know me know I kind of have a bad sense of humor
Speaker#1:
00:36:33.56 – 00:36:43.939
and when I’m in a kind of that mood it it just hit me I was talking to somebody the other day and I said you know you see these these slogans right Guns don’t kill people
Speaker#1:
00:36:45.04 – 00:36:46.969
husbands who come home early
Speaker#1:
00:36:50.689 – 00:36:57.83
And I said oh that has a sorry Yes sorry Yes I I my wife told me I crossed the line Happy Mother’s Day
Speaker#1:
00:36:59.3 – 00:37:06.909
But no I was thinking of see you gotta be able to think about everything because I was thinking about that because there’s really an interesting thought there for the church
Speaker#1:
00:37:09.399 – 00:37:11.83
it’s his bride don’t touch
Speaker#1:
00:37:14.129 – 00:37:19.459
it’s his bride don’t touch It’s his people it’s his flock
Speaker#1:
00:37:20.12 – 00:37:21.219
They’re his Children
Speaker#1:
00:37:21.959 – 00:37:25.51
now makes sense right The rabbit trail
Speaker#1:
00:37:26.27 – 00:37:31.209
But I say this because controlling manipulating
Speaker#1:
00:37:31.889 – 00:37:34.419
that’s what that pastor is afraid of
Speaker#1:
00:37:35.639 – 00:37:45.879
But it was just whitewashed supple curse It wasn’t getting to the heart it wasn’t transforming it was creating dependence It wasn’t raising people mature in Christ
Speaker#1:
00:37:49.459 – 00:38:05.52
You could you could have an argument God God why did you let the protocol go with the in the parable right Why did you let the protocol go Why didn’t you beat him down Why didn’t you control him Why didn’t you dominate him and for the love of God why did you give him his inheritance
Speaker#1:
00:38:06.8 – 00:38:11.12
And why didn’t you make him feel like total rubbish when he came home
Speaker#1:
00:38:12.909 – 00:38:34.709
Because I’m trying to let you know the heart of the father so that you can reproduce it for God so loved the world Lord let that love get into us let this wisdom get into us God lets people make their own choices He lets them go their own way And when somebody comes to church when they come to Christ you know like this is the proverbial pastor’s kid problem
Speaker#1:
00:38:35.0 – 00:38:47.669
I think the pastor kids problem has been revealing a deeper problem We care more about how people act on the outside than what’s happening in the heart And so we put all kinds of pressure on how they need to behave externally
Speaker#1:
00:38:48.27 – 00:38:53.169
to make it look good to the people so that we won’t be stoned by the people
Speaker#1:
00:38:54.27 – 00:39:01.11
and don’t realize that if it’s not if it’s not real in a person and they’re you’re making them put on a form it’s hypocrisy
Speaker#1:
00:39:03.139 – 00:39:05.149
It’s a whitewash sepal
Speaker#1:
00:39:05.83 – 00:39:11.419
But we we would you have to have a whitewash sale because if they saw what was really in the heart
Speaker#1:
00:39:13.08 – 00:39:18.889
But that’s what Jesus did with that word of knowledge wasn’t it I know what’s really in your heart and I love you
Speaker#1:
00:39:21.979 – 00:39:24.929
I know what’s really in your heart and I love you
Speaker#1:
00:39:26.199 – 00:39:29.149
And that is the shame that so many people live under
Speaker#1:
00:39:30.87 – 00:39:32.389
If they really knew me
Speaker#1:
00:39:33.33 – 00:39:39.419
if they really knew what I was like If they really understood who I am
Speaker#1:
00:39:40.05 – 00:39:41.26
they would hate me
Speaker#1:
00:39:44.709 – 00:39:45.729
bondage
Speaker#1:
00:39:46.51 – 00:39:47.629
death
Speaker#1:
00:39:49.25 – 00:39:58.75
And we were just talking about how these forms are killing the church We have these forms that make us feel like we did church and we feel good
Speaker#1:
00:39:59.82 – 00:40:13.04
and it says but it has no power against the indulgence of the flesh It’s not looking at the outcome It’s not looking is a life really being transformed It it’s not really looking if wherever of living water are flowing
Speaker#1:
00:40:15.8 – 00:40:23.199
as long as my religious observance have made has made me feel holy or good or righteous
Speaker#1:
00:40:26.199 – 00:40:45.989
And at some point it’s got a shift I know him whom I believe and he has been good to me and he loves me and he is faithful And when I mess up his grace comes back and and when I mess up again his grace comes back again And then and I say Lord I don’t wanna take your grace in vain but
Speaker#1:
00:40:48.689 – 00:40:50.77
his mercy and grace
Speaker#1:
00:40:52.59 – 00:40:54.879
changes you from the inside out
Speaker#1:
00:40:55.989 – 00:41:00.77
when he knows everything about you And he does And he says I love you
Speaker#1:
00:41:01.379 – 00:41:06.699
and I died for you and I’ve forgiven you and I care about you
Speaker#1:
00:41:08.929 – 00:41:11.409
It changes you from the inside out
Speaker#1:
00:41:15.149 – 00:41:22.82
and the church needs to be really about outcome being outcome driven rather than rules regulations and
Speaker#1:
00:41:23.689 – 00:41:31.02
the things that I just read about in Colossians our lives being changed Are we growing in love Are we growing in compassion
Speaker#1:
00:41:31.699 – 00:41:35.79
And I I’ve been talking a lot about Bob Mumford lately because I’ve been thinking about him
Speaker#1:
00:41:36.919 – 00:41:38.679
and uh you know because I’ve
Speaker#1:
00:41:39.409 – 00:41:43.84
really enjoyed listening to his messages when I was a young believer
Speaker#1:
00:41:45.449 – 00:41:56.939
And then many years later I thought I’m gonna look up Bob Mumford and find out what he was talking about at the time I haven’t looked him up in I won’t tell you how long but it’s been a long time His time goes by fast doesn’t it
Speaker#1:
00:41:58.3 – 00:42:10.07
And when I looked him up again because he had got into the shepherding movement Like a lot of people who love the Lord did and made a lot of shipwrecks of a lot of people’s lives and destroyed families Legalism kills
Speaker#1:
00:42:10.989 – 00:42:23.07
legalism kills people need to hear God for themselves Follow God for themselves trust God for themselves and have the freedom to make mistakes and still be loved
Speaker#1:
00:42:23.62 – 00:42:24.82
and appreciated
Speaker#1:
00:42:25.679 – 00:42:30.33
And when I had looked him up many years later he was teaching about agape
Speaker#1:
00:42:30.87 – 00:42:49.439
agape love And we hear about that What you know in the scripture a whole new word for love agape love And you hear it defined in many ways And you know one of the ways that it’s often defined is the very love that God has in himself is that very love that we were just talking about for God so loved the world that he gave
Speaker#1:
00:42:51.61 – 00:42:52.55
and he
Speaker#1:
00:42:53.159 – 00:42:57.439
had built a whole ministry around this idea of agape love
Speaker#1:
00:43:00.32 – 00:43:04.419
and the way he described it is it’s love without a hook
Speaker#1:
00:43:06.52 – 00:43:15.34
that the gospel or the grace of God or Jesus Christ takes the hooks out of love I do for what’s in it for me
Speaker#1:
00:43:16.02 – 00:43:18.85
I give for what I will receive
Speaker#1:
00:43:20.1 – 00:43:22.919
Hm There’s a lot of hooks in the church aren’t there
Speaker#1:
00:43:23.669 – 00:43:27.33
It’s all about me and what will I get Me me me me me
Speaker#1:
00:43:29.459 – 00:43:35.59
And I and I really make a point in my conviction that Jesus healed just because he loved
Speaker#1:
00:43:36.33 – 00:43:53.11
he didn’t heal to prove he is almighty God and powerful and able to heal He healed because he loved and he didn’t expect you to come and become his disciple You owe me now because I healed you Now you better follow me He healed went away 10 lepers cleansed Only one came back
Speaker#1:
00:43:53.87 – 00:43:55.57
He was OK with that outcome
Speaker#1:
00:43:56.31 – 00:44:11.84
because he came back out of his free will And if you asked him Lord would you do it again after they were not grateful at all And they didn’t become your disciples I would do it again and again and again because God so loves the world
Speaker#1:
00:44:15.01 – 00:44:15.959
Wow
Speaker#1:
00:44:16.86 – 00:44:20.32
rivers of living water When we get hold of these truths
Speaker#1:
00:44:21.1 – 00:44:22.659
rivers of living water
Speaker#1:
00:44:25.239 – 00:44:32.239
You see I think that what we’re talking about here like recently a number of you know time flies doesn’t it
Speaker#1:
00:44:32.879 – 00:44:40.629
A while back when we were preaching on Sunday And I said one of the things that is really special about life Springs Church is there’s authenticity
Speaker#1:
00:44:42.02 – 00:44:50.8
A lot of people really authentically committed to living for Jesus loving one another trying to be real
Speaker#1:
00:44:51.35 – 00:44:54.209
and really having a heart after God Authenticity
Speaker#1:
00:44:54.82 – 00:44:58.179
I think the world is dying and looking for authenticity
Speaker#1:
00:45:00.0 – 00:45:02.939
And the other side of authenticity is hypocrisy
Speaker#1:
00:45:04.239 – 00:45:10.02
It’s putting on a mask that’s what it means to put on a mask to be an actor
Speaker#1:
00:45:12.169 – 00:45:18.429
Matthew 23 27 through 28 Who do you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites
Speaker#1:
00:45:19.159 – 00:45:35.169
You are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness even So you also outwardly appear righteous to men but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness
Speaker#1:
00:45:38.33 – 00:45:41.04
White washed seal curse
Speaker#1:
00:45:42.739 – 00:45:47.53
A lot of the church is living in that realm and doesn’t realize it
Speaker#1:
00:45:48.389 – 00:45:53.01
It’s not it’s not insincere A lot of the Pharisees were not insincere
Speaker#1:
00:45:54.62 – 00:45:58.51
but it’s not realizing that we need to learn how to get to the heart
Speaker#1:
00:45:59.78 – 00:46:09.389
You can get people following the rules externally through coercion You remove that coercion you have no idea what you’ll really have left
Speaker#1:
00:46:10.649 – 00:46:14.75
When you remove the coercion we find what’s really in the heart
Speaker#1:
00:46:15.28 – 00:46:26.29
And if we’re not developing what is real what is authentic and deep life covenant and commitment and relationship with Jesus Christ
Speaker#1:
00:46:28.389 – 00:46:29.659
then we’re missing It
Speaker#1:
00:46:30.25 – 00:46:33.59
lives are not becoming more and more like him
Speaker#1:
00:46:34.36 – 00:46:35.61
then we’re missing it
Speaker#1:
00:46:38.149 – 00:46:45.3
If we’re not growing in love and mercy and grace and compassion and we’re just putting on a show we’re missing it
Speaker#1:
00:46:46.679 – 00:46:56.83
But you know what I think that a lot of times people will do the whitewash seal curve because inwardly they’re filled with guilt and shame
Speaker#1:
00:47:02.379 – 00:47:04.659
It’s really hard to think about that isn’t it
Speaker#1:
00:47:06.489 – 00:47:09.709
And it’s only when he says to that woman I know you
Speaker#1:
00:47:10.32 – 00:47:11.36
and I love you
Speaker#1:
00:47:12.689 – 00:47:15.07
I know you and I love you
Speaker#1:
00:47:15.75 – 00:47:19.669
And to think that he says to each one of us and every one of us I know you
Speaker#1:
00:47:20.409 – 00:47:21.59
and I love you
Speaker#1:
00:47:22.169 – 00:47:31.209
That’s what breaks down the wall so that we can tear down the whitewash seal Curs and go for authenticity
Speaker#1:
00:47:31.719 – 00:47:32.919
In reality
Speaker#1:
00:47:36.87 – 00:47:43.12
It has to be about life transformation reproducing the life of Christ not talking about it
Speaker#1:
00:47:43.8 – 00:47:56.649
It’s about loving Well it may actually include laughing Well it may include enjoying each other’s company and celebrating life together and being full of righteousness Peace and joy
Speaker#1:
00:47:58.35 – 00:48:10.169
Exactly The joy of the Lord is my strength How can you have any joy when you’re full of guilt and shame How can you have any joy when you are playing an actor
Speaker#1:
00:48:10.79 – 00:48:11.82
A hypocrite
Speaker#1:
00:48:12.409 – 00:48:13.75
when you’re pretending
Speaker#1:
00:48:14.59 – 00:48:29.51
Why are you pretending Because I am hurt because I am broken because I’m no good I’m gonna go get water when nobody else is around because I don’t even want I don’t want them to see me I am so ashamed
Speaker#1:
00:48:31.59 – 00:48:44.82
I don’t want anybody to see me I’m so ashamed I’m going to whitewash the supper because I don’t want them to see me Because if they do they’ll never love me There’s a world out there that is living in that reality
Speaker#1:
00:48:46.78 – 00:48:51.5
And only those that have this love of God in Jesus Christ are gonna wake him up
Speaker#1:
00:48:52.12 – 00:48:54.189
They need an encounter with Jesus
Speaker#1:
00:48:58.959 – 00:49:03.83
What we’re trying to build in this church is a context for life transformation
Speaker#1:
00:49:05.939 – 00:49:09.6
One of the things I love about community
Speaker#1:
00:49:10.36 – 00:49:13.34
is it’s the opportunity to forgive isn’t it Dave
Speaker#1:
00:49:13.879 – 00:49:15.399
Even on a Sunday morning
Speaker#1:
00:49:16.3 – 00:49:33.179
It it’s it’s a it’s a context to deal with conflict and crisis And people say oh that’s a terrible thing If there’s conflict no the the the opportunities where we learn to love and forgive And if they were more like Jesus they wouldn’t they wouldn’t be such a pain in the air
Speaker#1:
00:49:34.679 – 00:49:47.11
If I was more like Jesus I might love him anyway because they’re not they don’t live to please me or you they live to please the Lord And if he hasn’t changed their hearts yet then he’s called us to love them like he loves them
Speaker#1:
00:49:47.75 – 00:49:56.27
and forgive them But we’re not talking about license to sin We’re talking about loving a broken fallen world into life
Speaker#1:
00:49:58.419 – 00:50:11.439
But that’s what we’re trying to build Here is authentic Christian community It’s not yes programs can be helpful but we treat it like I passed this course This course this course this course Now I’ve got my degree mature Christian
Speaker#1:
00:50:12.25 – 00:50:14.53
We’d like program program program
Speaker#1:
00:50:16.02 – 00:50:20.679
God can use programs But it’s usually because in the programs we’re making friends
Speaker#1:
00:50:22.169 – 00:50:24.25
it’s the relationships that matter
Speaker#1:
00:50:25.28 – 00:50:27.75
It’s the word of God
Speaker#1:
00:50:28.409 – 00:50:32.459
illuminated by the Holy Spirit transforming us It’s that
Speaker#1:
00:50:33.469 – 00:50:44.879
life of Christ embodied in one another experience in the context of relationship That’s what’s transformative And if a program brings that praise the Lord
Speaker#1:
00:50:46.02 – 00:50:51.909
but if you have a program with a bunch of Pharisees all you’re going to do is make them 10 times the devil
Speaker#1:
00:50:52.959 – 00:50:56.09
It’s about authenticity in life You see where I’m going
Speaker#1:
00:50:56.889 – 00:51:20.81
It’s and so I would say authentic friendships are so important But I mentioned before that this would be a shameless plug for the life group because I’ve we’ve really been enjoying it haven’t we That people have been there And it is a time to have fellowship and to get around God’s word and to be together and to build relationship to connect to know one another
Speaker#1:
00:51:23.37 – 00:51:29.969
I wrap it up with transformation comes from an encounter with in revelation of Jesus
Speaker#1:
00:51:30.51 – 00:51:33.37
That’s what happened at the well that day
Speaker#1:
00:51:34.409 – 00:51:40.02
the woman that woman had an encounter with Jesus the Christ
Speaker#1:
00:51:41.159 – 00:51:42.969
she had a revelation
Speaker#1:
00:51:43.54 – 00:51:45.04
He is the Christ
Speaker#1:
00:51:45.969 – 00:51:47.84
She had a revelation
Speaker#1:
00:51:48.36 – 00:51:54.81
of the heart of the father Jesus said have you been with me so long And you don’t know whoever has seen me
Speaker#1:
00:51:56.469 – 00:51:57.82
has seen the Father
Speaker#1:
00:51:59.03 – 00:52:10.409
What we just read was a revelation of the Father for God so loved the world that encounter at the well was a revelation of our father who art in heaven
Speaker#1:
00:52:12.62 – 00:52:14.35
And that revelation
Speaker#1:
00:52:15.09 – 00:52:18.389
transformed her instantly
Speaker#1:
00:52:19.27 – 00:52:22.02
and became a wellspring of living water
Speaker#1:
00:52:22.83 – 00:52:23.86
that she went
Speaker#1:
00:52:24.52 – 00:52:25.479
to the city
Speaker#1:
00:52:27.51 – 00:52:35.75
to she trampled on her guilt and shame It was gone Where was it I don’t know I lost it somewhere where probably with that guy Jesus
Speaker#1:
00:52:37.629 – 00:52:38.909
come and see
Speaker#1:
00:52:39.56 – 00:52:41.05
We have found the Christ
Speaker#1:
00:52:43.409 – 00:52:44.909
great awakening
Speaker#1:
00:52:45.959 – 00:52:48.409
not months not years
Speaker#1:
00:52:49.11 – 00:52:50.429
but in an instant
Speaker#1:
00:52:50.939 – 00:52:58.85
from a transformed life Lord let that revelation get into us because that can happen today
Speaker#1:
00:53:00.35 – 00:53:04.439
That can happen to any one of us today
Speaker#1:
00:53:05.03 – 00:53:12.27
A greater revelation of Jesus a greater revelation of his heart a greater revelation of his love for us
Speaker#1:
00:53:13.899 – 00:53:16.229
And now rivers will start to flow
Speaker#1:
00:53:16.939 – 00:53:18.489
and we can’t contain them
Speaker#1:
00:53:20.0 – 00:53:22.37
and it can impact whole communities
Speaker#1:
00:53:23.159 – 00:53:32.899
It can become a fire that can burn through the nations rivers flowing washing away sin not through condemnation
Speaker#1:
00:53:34.75 – 00:53:36.3
put through an encounter
Speaker#1:
00:53:37.159 – 00:53:38.429
and a revelation
Speaker#1:
00:53:39.26 – 00:53:40.659
in Jesus mighty name
Speaker#1:
00:53:43.239 – 00:53:44.239
Hallelujah
