Get on the Potter’s Wheel and Stay There

Have you ever felt lost or confused about your purpose in life? Many of us have been there, searching for answers and longing for direction. Today, I want to share a powerful message that revolves around the concept of being on the Potter’s wheel, a place of transformation and renewal.

As we dive into this idea, let’s reflect on a profound truth: God is the ultimate Potter, and we are His clay. This relationship is beautifully illustrated in Jeremiah 18:1-4, where God instructs Jeremiah to go to the Potter’s house. There, Jeremiah observes the Potter shaping clay into a vessel. When the clay becomes marred, the Potter doesn’t discard it; instead, He reshapes it into something new and beautiful. This is a perfect metaphor for our lives.

The Importance of Being Molded

Understanding that we are like clay in the hands of our Creator is crucial. Each of us has been shaped by our experiences, choices, and the love of God. Just as the Potter works meticulously to form a vessel, God is actively working in our lives, shaping us for His purpose.

However, the process isn’t always easy. Sometimes, we resist being molded. We cling to our imperfections and past mistakes, believing they define us. But God sees beyond our flaws. He knows the potential within us and desires to bring it forth. The key is to trust the process and allow ourselves to be shaped by His hands.

Embracing the Process

Many of us wonder why we go through difficult times. Life can be challenging, and we often find ourselves in situations that seem overwhelming. It’s during these moments that we must remember: the Potter is still working. He uses trials and tribulations to refine us, just as gold is tested in the fire.

Let’s not forget that our struggles can lead to growth. The very challenges that seem to hinder us can actually be the tools God uses to shape us into the vessels He intends us to be. Embrace the pressure, the molding, and even the breaking. It’s all part of the process.

The Gift of Choice

One of the most beautiful aspects of our relationship with God is the gift of choice. We have the ability to choose to respond to God’s call to come to the Potter’s wheel. In Deuteronomy 30:19, we are reminded that we can choose life or death, blessings or curses. This choice is not just about our eternal destiny; it’s about how we live our lives daily.

God desires for us to choose Him wholeheartedly. When we turn our hearts towards Him, we open ourselves up to His transformative work. He is waiting with open arms, ready to reshape our lives according to His perfect will.

Learning from the Weeping Prophet

Jeremiah, often referred to as the weeping prophet, serves as a poignant example of someone who understood the heart of God. He witnessed the moral decay of his people and wept for their unfaithfulness. Yet, even in his sorrow, he remained faithful to deliver God’s message of hope and restoration.

Jeremiah’s sensitivity to God’s heart teaches us that God longs for intimacy with us. He desires for us to return to Him, to rekindle the love we once had. In Jeremiah 2:2, God reminisces about the devotion of our youth, urging us to remember our first love. Have we lost that fervor? Are we seeking fulfillment in things that ultimately leave us empty?

God’s Relentless Pursuit

Despite our shortcomings, God relentlessly pursues us. He is ferociously determined to have us, to keep us, and to complete us. His love is unwavering, and His plans for us are good. In Jeremiah 29:11, He reassures us that He knows the plans He has for us—plans to prosper us and to give us hope and a future.

God’s desire is not to punish us but to restore us. When we stray from His path, He gently nudges us back, reminding us that we are His beloved creations. He invites us to come back to Him, to allow Him to heal our brokenness and to fill our hearts with His love.

The Call to Surrender

In order to be transformed, we must surrender our lives to the Potter. This surrender is not a one-time event; it is a daily commitment to allow God to shape us. We must be willing to climb onto the Potter’s wheel and stay there, even when the process feels uncomfortable or painful.

Our hearts can be deceitful, as Jeremiah 17:9 warns us. We may resist God’s work, holding onto our stubbornness and pride. But true freedom comes when we relinquish control and trust in His perfect plan.

Finding Healing and Restoration

As we navigate life’s challenges, let us remember that God is the ultimate healer. He can mend our brokenness and restore our souls. The balm of Gilead, as referenced in Jeremiah 8:22, is available to us. Jesus is that balm—He is the healing we need for our wounded hearts.

When we feel marred and unworthy, we must remind ourselves that God can make something beautiful out of our lives. He specializes in taking broken things and restoring them into masterpieces. Just like the Potter reshapes the clay, God can reshape our lives for His glory.

Conclusion: Stay on the Potter’s Wheel

As we conclude, I encourage you to get on the Potter’s wheel and stay there. Trust in the process and allow God to work in your life. Embrace the trials, the shaping, and the molding. Remember, you are not alone. God is with you, guiding you every step of the way.

Let us come together in prayer, asking God to help us surrender our hearts to Him. May we seek His will and allow Him to lead us on the path He has designed for us. Together, let us declare, “Have Thine own way, Lord; You are the Potter, I am the clay.”

Authentic Relational Church — The Jerusalem Model

Christianity can appear successful by worldly standards—big buildings and large attendance—yet still miss the transforming power Jesus intended. When the church is organized by systems instead of organic, family-shaped relationships, it often fails to reflect heaven on earth. The heart of the problem is structural. A mechanistic church produces mechanical results, while a church rooted in belonging and the gospel brings life, healing, and renewal. The dream is simple: every person experiences love, welcome, and a personal encounter with Jesus. Discover how the early church’s model can inspire a thriving, relational community today.
