Embracing Destiny Through Faith: Lessons from Trials

Good morning, everyone! Today, I want to talk about the journey of faith, the trials we face, and how they shape our destiny. We all know that life can be challenging, much like the pollen in the air that affects many of us. But in these challenges, there lies the opportunity for growth and service to others.

The Sifting Process

Let’s begin with a powerful thought: Jesus once told Peter that Satan had asked to sift him. This concept of sifting is crucial for understanding our journeys. When we have a destiny in our hearts, there are always moments of sifting that occur. These moments challenge our dreams and test our resolve. As I shared last week, our dreams will always be tested, especially if we aspire to lead and impact the lives of others.

As leaders, we have a responsibility to serve others. Christ exemplified this servant leadership, showing us that true leadership is about lifting others up rather than seeking to be served. When we have a destiny in our hearts, we must remember that sifting is part of the process. It prepares us to bring blessings to those around us.

A Personal Journey in Faith

Let me share a personal story from my life. In January 2010, I had the opportunity to travel to Ghana, Africa, to be a guest speaker. At that time, I had a thousand dollars that I was considering investing in the stock market. However, the Holy Spirit spoke to me clearly, saying, “I’m better than the stock market.” So, I decided to donate that money to a local pastor, a Ghanaian named James Aisi, who, along with his wife Lydia, was doing incredible work in their community.

For them, that thousand dollars was a significant amount—equivalent to a year’s wages. They lived in conditions that many of us would find difficult to imagine. But that act of giving was a moment of sifting for me. It tested my faith and my willingness to trust in God’s provision. I believe that when we step out in faith, even in small ways, we open the door to greater blessings for ourselves and others.

The Promise of Blessing

Returning to Abraham, we see a man who never saw the full fruition of God’s promises but had faith in what was to come. God told Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars. This was a blessing meant not just for Abraham, but for all of humanity. In Genesis 12, God promises Abraham that he will be blessed to be a blessing to others. This principle applies to us as well.

As Christians, we are all called to be leaders within our communities. Our purpose is to bless others. Can I get an amen on that? It’s easy to forget our calling when we face cultural shifts that challenge our beliefs. Throughout history, the church has sometimes adopted cultural practices that deviate from the teachings of Jesus. However, we must remain anchored in the truth of our faith.

The Faithfulness of God

In August of that same year, after donating to James and Lydia, I found myself in a dire situation. I was struggling with severe health issues, including cirrhosis of the liver and cancer lesions. I had been given just six months to live. Despite my weakened state, I continued to hold onto my faith. Sometimes, when our own faith falters, we need the faith of others to carry us through.

During this time, I had a vision through a family member who was a nurse. She saw a heavenly vision of my liver, perfectly restored and ready for me. This was a sign of hope during a dark time. It was a reminder that God is faithful and that He hears our prayers. The call for a liver transplant came just in time, and it was through prayer and perseverance that I found healing.

Faith in Action

When I arrived at the hospital, I was in rough shape. The staff was surprised I could walk in on my own. But I knew that God had a plan for me. I was ready for the surgery, and despite the odds, I made it through. The liver I received was a perfect match, just as my sister-in-law had envisioned. This wasn’t just coincidence; it was a testimony of God’s provision and faithfulness.

Through this experience, I learned that our destiny is intertwined with the lives of others. We are called to serve, to be a blessing, and to stand firm in our faith, even when the road gets tough. As we navigate our journeys, we must remember that God is with us every step of the way.

Understanding Our Identity

As we reflect on our lives, we must consider our identity in Christ. Are we cultural Christians, or are we truly born again? This distinction is essential. Many people know about Jesus but do not know Him personally. True Christianity requires a heart transformation and a commitment to live out our faith actively.

John 3:1 tells us about Nicodemus, a Pharisee who came to Jesus by night. He was a ruler of the Jews but struggled to understand the concept of being born again. Jesus explained that unless one is born of water and the Spirit, they cannot enter the Kingdom of God. This passage illustrates the need for a genuine relationship with Christ, not just a cultural understanding of Him.

Living Out Our Faith

We must engage with the world around us, representing Christ in every aspect of our lives. Whether in politics, arts, or any profession, we have the opportunity to share the love of Jesus. Each of us has a unique calling and destiny to fulfill.

Let’s not forget the importance of our actions. As James 1:27 reminds us, true religion is about caring for orphans and widows and keeping ourselves unstained by the world. We are called to live out our faith in tangible ways that reflect Christ’s love and grace.

Facing Challenges with Faith

It’s vital to understand that challenges are part of the journey. They are not meant to defeat us but to refine us. Like the all-American football star who saved a life but faced a moral dilemma when asked to pardon a friend, we must evaluate our hearts. Are we truly living out our faith, or are we just going through the motions?

Faith is not just a set of beliefs; it is an active, living relationship with Christ. We must challenge ourselves to be authentic in our faith, to serve others, and to stand firm against cultural pressures that seek to dilute our convictions.

The Call to Action

As we close, I want to remind you that each of us has a role to play in God’s kingdom. We are called to lead, to serve, and to be a blessing to others. Let’s rise up and embrace our destiny with courage and faith. God has placed dreams in our hearts, and with every challenge, we grow stronger and more equipped to fulfill them.

So, let’s pray together and ask God to guide us in our journeys. May we be vessels of His love and grace, shining brightly in a world that so desperately needs it. Amen!

Authentic Relational Church — The Jerusalem Model

Christianity can appear successful by worldly standards—big buildings and large attendance—yet still miss the transforming power Jesus intended. When the church is organized by systems instead of organic, family-shaped relationships, it often fails to reflect heaven on earth. The heart of the problem is structural. A mechanistic church produces mechanical results, while a church rooted in belonging and the gospel brings life, healing, and renewal. The dream is simple: every person experiences love, welcome, and a personal encounter with Jesus. Discover how the early church’s model can inspire a thriving, relational community today.
