Public Display of Affection: A Call to Spiritual Awakening

The Heart of the Matter
As we draw closer to pivotal moments in our society, notably the upcoming elections, my heart has been burdened by the actions of fellow believers. Many Christians are aligning with ideologies that starkly contrast the teachings of Christ. This message emerges from a deep concern and a desire to illuminate these issues.
Recently, I encountered believers advocating the possibility of supporting a pro-choice candidate while claiming to be pro-life. This notion perplexes me. Voting for a pro-choice candidate inherently supports a pro-death agenda, revealing a spiritual blindness that prevails in our nation.
Moreover, there’s a troubling trend of Christians embracing ideologies like cultural Marxism, repackaged in various forms. These ideologies aim to dismantle family, church, and nation. They present themselves as compassionate and loving, yet they are vehicles of darkness.
Turning the Lights On
The spiritual warfare we face is profound. Forces of darkness are blinding people, even within the church. The devil often masquerades as an angel of light, and we desperately need the true light of Christ to shine upon our nation.
So, how do we illuminate this darkness? It begins with a public display of affection for our Lord. Let’s explore what that means through the lens of scripture, starting with the story of King David.
The Power of Public Worship
Public displays of affection for God can radically transform our culture. Consider the story of David, who danced before the Lord with all his might. His act was a public display of affection that changed the atmosphere and brought life to those around him.
David’s dance was more than just a physical act; it was a declaration of his love and devotion to God. It was a statement that transcended cultural norms and expectations. David was unashamed, even in his humble attire, because his heart was overflowing with love for the Lord.

Public worship, when genuine, changes not only the atmosphere but also our hearts. It brings life and vitality, allowing us to experience God’s presence in profound ways.
Overflowing with Love
When we are filled with God’s presence, it overflows into every aspect of our lives. Our words and actions become a testament to our love for Jesus. This overflow is not just about speaking; it’s about carrying a spiritual presence that transforms our surroundings.
I’ve experienced this firsthand. In times of passionate worship, I would leave filled with God’s presence, and it would impact those around me in unexpected ways. This overflow is a natural result of being in love with Jesus.
David’s example shows us that being madly in love with God leads to bold and life-giving actions. His return to bless his household was a natural extension of his worship. When we are in love with God, blessing others becomes second nature.
Breaking the Chains of Barrenness
David’s wife, Michal, did not understand his actions. Her perspective was skewed by cultural norms and expectations. This misunderstanding led to barrenness, a physical representation of spiritual emptiness.
In many ways, the church today suffers from similar barrenness. We are missing the life and vitality that comes from a passionate love for Jesus. We must ask ourselves if we are truly embracing the life God offers through His Holy Spirit.
It’s time to break the chains of spiritual barrenness by returning to our first love and embracing the fullness of life that comes from a relationship with Jesus.
The Call to Radical Love
Our public displays of affection for God must be rooted in genuine love. This love is not confined to public worship but extends to our private lives. We are called to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
This love is life-giving and transformative. It empowers us to keep God’s commandments, not out of obligation, but as a natural expression of our love for Him.

When we live in radical love, we become a light in the darkness, pointing others to the hope and life found in Jesus.
The Great Commission: A Public Display of Affection
The Great Commission is one of the most profound public displays of affection for God. Jesus, with all authority in heaven and on earth, sends us to make disciples of all nations. This mission is an expression of our love for God and others.
We are called to teach and baptize, to extend the borders of God’s kingdom with love and authority. This is not a burden but a joyous expression of our faith.
The Great Commission challenges us to live out our faith boldly and lovingly, impacting the world for Christ.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit
To fulfill this mission, we need the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. The early church understood this, as seen in their boldness and prayerful dependence on God.
When faced with opposition, they prayed for boldness and were filled with the Holy Spirit. This empowerment enabled them to speak God’s word with courage and conviction.

We, too, need this empowerment to face the challenges of our time. Through prayer and the Holy Spirit, we can be bold witnesses for Christ in a world that desperately needs His light.
Embracing the Call
Our public displays of affection for God are not just about worship and praise. They encompass our entire lives, reflecting our love for Jesus in everything we do.
As we embrace this call, we will see transformation in our lives, our churches, and our communities. The light of Christ will shine brightly, breaking through the darkness and bringing hope to the world.
Let us commit to living passionately in love with Jesus, turning the lights on through our public displays of affection, and witnessing the power of God at work in and through us.
A Final Challenge
As we conclude, I challenge you to examine your own life. Are you living in radical love for Jesus? Are your public displays of affection genuine and life-giving? If not, it’s time to return to your first love and embrace the fullness of life that God offers.
Let’s be a people who live out the gospel authentically, turning the lights on in our culture with our love and devotion to Jesus. Together, we can witness the power of God transforming our world.
