What’s different now is the awakening to this reality. People are beginning to confront their fears and question the meaning of life and death. This awakening offers an opportunity for us to engage with the world around us, to share the hope we have in Jesus Christ, who has conquered death.

The Day of the Lord: An Awakening

The “Day of the Lord” is a significant biblical concept that encompasses God’s ultimate plan for humanity. It speaks of a time when God’s presence will be fully revealed, and all creation will experience His glory. This day is not just about judgment; it is about restoration, reconciliation, and the fulfillment of God’s promise to His people.

As we navigate through these challenging times, we must recognize that the church has a vital role in impacting culture and society. Historically, the early church, as depicted in the Book of Acts, made a profound impact on their world. Today, we must ask ourselves: How can we, as the body of Christ, awaken a similar movement in our generation?

The Danger of God’s Presence

One of the first truths we must grasp is that God’s presence is both beautiful and dangerous. In the Old Testament, we see examples of this duality. When the Ark of the Covenant returned to Israel, curiosity led the people to look inside, resulting in the death of fifty thousand men (1 Samuel 6:19). This serves as a stark reminder that God’s holiness cannot coexist with sin.

Similarly, the story of Nadab and Abihu in Leviticus 10 illustrates the seriousness of approaching God on our terms. They offered unauthorized fire before the Lord and were consumed by His judgment. These accounts remind us of the holiness of God and the need for reverence when we approach Him.

As we reflect on these stories, we recognize that God’s presence is transformative. It brings life, but it also demands holiness. This is why Jesus came—to bridge the gap between our sinfulness and God’s holiness. Through His sacrifice, we are made righteous and can approach God with confidence.

The Garden of God: A Vision of Restoration

In the beginning, God created a perfect garden where heaven and earth were one. This was His original design for humanity—to dwell in His presence without fear or shame. However, sin introduced a veil that separated us from God. Yet, God’s plan is not just to redeem individuals but to restore all of creation.

As we look forward to the Day of the Lord, we anticipate a time when heaven and earth will be united once again. Revelation 21 portrays a new heaven and a new earth, where God will dwell with His people, and there will be no more death, pain, or sorrow.

The Nature of God’s Presence

God’s presence is often described in Scripture as a consuming fire and a river of life. For those in covenant with Him, His presence brings joy, peace, and blessing. However, for those outside of His covenant, it can evoke fear and judgment. This is why the message of the Gospel is so crucial; it invites all people into a relationship with God, offering them the hope of redemption.

In Isaiah 25:6-8, we see a beautiful picture of God’s desire to feast with His people, to remove the veil of mourning and death. This day is coming, and we must prepare ourselves and others for it.
