Contenders for The Faith

The world is groaning, burdened, and seemingly falling apart. Yet, in the midst of this chaos, there is a call for believers to rise as contenders for the faith. This call challenges us not only to hold onto hope but to actively engage in transforming the world through the power of the gospel. Let’s explore how we can become true contenders, not just for our own sakes but for the world that desperately needs deliverance.

Understanding the State of the World

Everywhere we turn, it seems like the world is in disarray. People are discouraged, frustrated, and heartbroken by the trajectory of our culture. The banning of books, the rise of oppression, and the general sense of hopelessness reflect a world that has turned away from worshiping the Lord and seeking to become like Him. In this vacuum, people look to dead things to save them, but the truth is, only the living God can bring true salvation.

The Gospel of the Kingdom

The gospel is not merely that Jesus died for our sins or that God loves us and has a wonderful plan for our lives. It is the gospel of the kingdom—a kingdom eagerly anticipated by the saints of old and inaugurated by Jesus Christ. This kingdom is not just civil, religious, or moral; it is all-encompassing, affecting every area of life, including the environment.

The Power of the Kingdom

The kingdom of God is not just a future hope but a present reality. It is a kingdom that will never be destroyed, a kingdom that breaks in pieces and consumes all other kingdoms. In the fullness of time, Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and to establish His kingdom forever. This truth should ignite hope and expectation within us, knowing that Jesus is Lord over all.

Walking with God

Throughout scripture, we see a recurring theme: where people walk with God, the world becomes a garden, a place of abundance and life. But when people reject God, it becomes a wasteland. This principle is evident in the history of Israel and continues to be true today. Our call is to return to the Lord, seek His presence, and bring forth life in a world that is dry and barren.

The Challenge of Faith

To live as contenders for the faith, we must dare to believe in the power of God. It is through faith that we access the kingdom and experience its blessings. This faith is not just intellectual assent but a living, active trust in God that manifests in our actions and attitudes. We are called to live in His presence, to abide in Him, and to bring His kingdom to the world.

Compassion for the Lost

Jesus was moved with compassion for the multitudes, seeing them as sheep without a shepherd. This same compassion should move us as we look at the world around us. We are called to be ambassadors of the kingdom, to bring the gospel of the kingdom to those who are lost and hurting. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. We must pray for the Lord to send out laborers into His harvest.

The Role of the Church

The church is the epicenter of God’s kingdom on earth. It is through the church that the world is transformed. As believers, we are called to build His house, to be a community of faith that reflects the glory of God. This is not about individual faith but about being the people of God, living in covenant community with one another.

Activating the Power of God

The Beatitudes give us the keys to plug into the power of God. They teach us how to live in a way that manifests the kingdom. When we recognize our need for God, when we hunger and thirst for righteousness, when we live with humility and love, we become conduits of His power. This is how we bring life to a dying world.

Our Identity as Believers

We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. This is our identity as believers, and it carries with it a responsibility to shine the light of Christ in the darkness. We are called to be contenders for the faith, to stand firm in the truth, and to boldly proclaim the gospel of the kingdom.

Conclusion: Embracing the Call

In this generation, the call to be contenders for the faith is more urgent than ever. We must embrace this call with courage and determination, knowing that we are not alone. The Spirit of God empowers us to live as ambassadors of His kingdom, to bring hope and transformation to a world in need. Let us rise up as contenders, confident in the victory that has already been won through Jesus Christ.

Authentic Relational Church — The Jerusalem Model

Christianity can appear successful by worldly standards—big buildings and large attendance—yet still miss the transforming power Jesus intended. When the church is organized by systems instead of organic, family-shaped relationships, it often fails to reflect heaven on earth. The heart of the problem is structural. A mechanistic church produces mechanical results, while a church rooted in belonging and the gospel brings life, healing, and renewal. The dream is simple: every person experiences love, welcome, and a personal encounter with Jesus. Discover how the early church’s model can inspire a thriving, relational community today.
