Awakening to the Power of the Holy Spirit

In our journey of faith, it’s essential to recognize the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Today, we will explore how the Holy Spirit breathes life into our faith, and how we can actively engage with Him to unlock the treasures He has for us.

The Importance of the Holy Spirit

Many may not realize this, but it is possible to achieve a lot within the church without the presence of the Holy Spirit. This might sound surprising, but history has shown us that zeal alone does not guarantee the Spirit’s involvement. Just like the story of the Tower of Babel illustrates, human efforts can be impressive, yet devoid of divine life.

As we engage in various church activities, we must ask ourselves: Is the Holy Spirit truly at work in what we do? The Spirit brings life, and without Him, our programs may merely reflect activity without genuine spiritual vitality.

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence

Our goal in discussing the Holy Spirit is to be reawakened to His presence in our lives and in the church. The Spirit is not just an abstract concept; He is a person with whom we can have a relationship. Without recognizing this, we risk missing out on the fullness of life that the Spirit offers.

In the Old Testament, we see powerful imagery of the Spirit bringing life, such as in the vision of the dry bones in Ezekiel. When God breathes on something, it comes alive. This is what we seek for our church; we long for God to breathe life into our work, our community, and our hearts.

Asking and Receiving

One of the most profound truths about the Holy Spirit is found in Luke 11:9-13. Jesus teaches us to ask, seek, and knock. The simplicity of this promise is striking: all we have to do is ask, and the Holy Spirit will be given to us. There’s no need for begging; just a sincere request.

Many years ago, while praying and walking around the church, I felt the Holy Spirit guiding me. Despite our struggles, we witnessed miracles and salvations. However, we faced financial challenges that seemed insurmountable. I asked the Lord why this was the case, and through the Holy Spirit, I received clarity.

Financial Freedom and the Spirit

It became clear that the enemy was fighting against our financial release. We often overlook the spiritual nature of money, yet it plays a crucial role in our ability to fulfill God’s mission. The devil does not mind if we glorify God or see salvations; what he despises is when we are released from the shackles that bind us.

Money, as a resource, enables us to do good works—building hospitals, feeding the poor, and supporting orphans. Yet, there exists a pervasive mindset in some circles that equates poverty with holiness. However, true holiness comes from our relationship with Christ, not our financial status.

Breaking the Poverty Spirit

During my ministry, I encountered resistance when discussing finances. Many elders were uncomfortable with the topic. Yet, I asked them a simple question: if money is not important, why are you working so hard to acquire it? This question led to a realization that many of us carry a poverty spirit, often inherited from our upbringing.

I vividly recall my grandmother’s words about poverty when we would visit affluent neighborhoods. Those seemingly innocent comments can shape our beliefs and attitudes towards money. The Holy Spirit revealed to me that this mindset had to be broken for us to move forward.

The Journey to Transformation

Transformation often begins with confronting our fears. Behind every fear lies a better version of ourselves waiting to be uncovered. The Holy Spirit is here to release us from those fears and unlock our true potential. This is a journey not just for individuals but for the church as a whole.

We must seek the Holy Spirit’s help to break free from these limitations. For many, these fears manifest as anxiety about speaking, leading, or engaging in ministry. My own journey involved overcoming a deep-seated fear of public speaking, which the Holy Spirit helped me confront.

Unlocking the Gifts Within

Each of us has unique gifts that the Holy Spirit wants to activate for the benefit of the church. In 1 Corinthians 12:4-13, we are reminded that there are a variety of gifts, but they all come from the same Spirit. These gifts are not for our glory but for the edification of the body of Christ.

When we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us, we can effectively minister to others. Our fears and limitations can be transformed into strengths when we yield to the Spirit’s leading. The Holy Spirit is continually working within us, guiding us to fulfill our God-given purposes.

Living in the Spirit

Living in the Spirit is not just about experiencing His gifts; it’s about understanding our identity as children of God. In Romans, it is written that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. This means that whatever we face, the Holy Spirit empowers us to overcome.

As we seek to live in this truth, we must also remember that our journey is collective. The church is called to operate as one body, with each member fulfilling their role. When we embrace our individual gifts and work in harmony, we create a powerful force for God’s kingdom.

Conclusion: A Call to Action

As we conclude this discussion on the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to actively engage with Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas in your life where fear may be holding you back. Seek to understand the gifts He has placed within you and how they can serve the church.

Let us not be casual inquirers but passionate seekers of the Spirit’s guidance. The Holy Spirit is ready to breathe life into our lives and our church. Together, we can unlock the hidden treasures that await us when we fully embrace His presence.

Remember, the Holy Spirit is with us, guiding us, and empowering us to be the better versions of ourselves in Christ. Let us move forward in faith, ready to receive all that God has for us.

Authentic Relational Church — The Jerusalem Model

Christianity can appear successful by worldly standards—big buildings and large attendance—yet still miss the transforming power Jesus intended. When the church is organized by systems instead of organic, family-shaped relationships, it often fails to reflect heaven on earth. The heart of the problem is structural. A mechanistic church produces mechanical results, while a church rooted in belonging and the gospel brings life, healing, and renewal. The dream is simple: every person experiences love, welcome, and a personal encounter with Jesus. Discover how the early church’s model can inspire a thriving, relational community today.
