A Singing and Shouting Church

(Sermon Outline)

1)      Why I love scripture.

a)       The goal is to see and know Jesus: through the things He says and does.  Everything he says reveals His heart and who He is.

b)      The more we know Him, the more beautiful and glorious He becomes in our perception.

c)       We grow to love Him and desire to be more like Him.  It is part of seeing and becoming.

d)      His words are transformative – we come to know the truth that sets us free.

e)      We become like him and bring His light into the world.

f)        Another exciting reality is that as we train ourselves to see the Lord through special revelation, we begin to see Him more and more through general revelation. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY EXCITING

g)       As we are enlightened through scripture, our world becomes enlightened and we begin to see the Lord more and more alive, active and moving in our midst and in the world.

2)      A glimpse of the Lord through Zephaniah

a)       Context: Zephaniah 3:8-13

i)        Out of His jealousy, God is going to bring judgment on the earth for a purpose: Zephaniah 3:9 (NKJV) — 9 “For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language, That they all may call on the name of the Lord, To serve Him with one accord.

ii)       He is going to bring impact the whole world and His strategy is to purify the church. The result is: Zephaniah 3:13 (NKJV) — 13 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness And speak no lies, Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; For they shall feed their flocks and lie down, And no one shall make them afraid.”

iii)     This shows God’s heart and purposes in the earth.  As we have been studying, if we expect God’s promises in history it changes how we act in the world.  It also gives us strategy, because it was all dependent on purifying a bride.  It is the outcome of a purified bride – HOW WE EXPECT PURIFICATION IS ESSENTIAL.

(1)    John 15:1–3 (NKJV) — 1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

b)      PASSAGE: Zephaniah 3:14–17 (NKJV) — 14 Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! (WHY? THAT COMMANDMENT CAN BE OPPRESSIVE IF IT ISN’T GROUNDED IN SEEING THE LORD) 15 The Lord has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; You shall see disaster no more. 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak. 17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

i)        We love because He has first loved us.

ii)       Singing is part of God’s design and has its root in God.

(1)    Job 38:4–7 (NKJV) — 4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6 To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

iii)     The normal Spirit in the church that will transform the world.

iv)     Theology adopted a passionless God from Greek philosophy so that all expressions of emotion are considered anthropomorphisms to communicate to human beings.

v)       General revelation – invisible attributes

(1)    Man as image bearer.

(a)    What is true of human experience teaches us about God.

(b)    I often ask people, does God laugh?

(2)    God sings!  He loves music!

(3)    The doctrine of the spheres.

c)       THE BIG QUESTION IS HOW GOD CAN SING OVER US WHEN WE KNOW HOW IMPERFECT WE ARE?

i)        This is the key to creating a transformed community that will change the world.

3)      What God forgets so He can remember:

a)       Jeremiah 31:33–34 (NKJV) — 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” (THIS LAST CLAUSE IS THE KEY CONCERNING THE ULTIMATE PURPOSE OF THE NEW COVENANT WHICH IS KNOWING GOD AND HAVING FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM).

b)      The importance of fellowship and relationship

c)       What is truly satisfying in life is not keeping rules but enjoying God and one another.

i)        One element of “the rules” is that when we love one another we want to bless rather than harm others.

ii)       What I am not saying is best said by Paul: Romans 6:1–2 (NKJV) — 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

d)      WHAT WE REMEMBER AND WHAT WE FORGET IS AT THE HEART OF BUILDING AUTHENTIC COMMUNITY THAT WILL TRANSFORM THE WORLD.

i)        Choosing to forget and remember is paradoxically the way we create a culture where people become set free from sin – motivated by love and not fear.

ii)       IT IS ABOUT MANIFESTING THE KINGDOM OF GOD ON EARTH – HIS RULE AND REIGN MADE TANGIBLE – A CULTURE OF LIFE.

iii)     Zephaniah 3:13 (NKJV) — 13 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness And speak no lies, Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; For they shall feed their flocks and lie down, And no one shall make them afraid.” (RESULT OF KEEPING THE LAW) – THE NEW COVENANT IS ABOUT EMPOWERMENT TO LOVE GOD AND ONE ANOTHER – WHICH IS KEEPING THE LAW

4)      The New Testament is often about teaching us the laws of the Spirit that cause us to keep the laws of God.

a)       Another element of “keeping the rules” is focusing on the rules that will cause us to walk in love and build transformative culture.

b)      We already referenced abiding in Christ (to bear much fruit).

c)       It is about manifesting the kingdom, so we need a simple definition of the kingdom to pursue: Romans 14:17–18 (NKJV) — 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking (external rules), but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.

d)      If you prefer to focus on rules, then here is the rule of life for today:  1 Thessalonians 5:16–22 (NKJV) — 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.

e)      There seems to be an intentional order in this passage.  (Start working the passage backward)

f)        Before and after the will of God for us.

g)       It seems like rejoicing always is a good description of the heart of God and naturally expresses itself in song.

h)      Revelation 15:1–4a (NKJV) — 1 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete. 2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God. 3 They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb.

5)      Conclusion

a)       God’s word reveals the heart of God to us to ultimate reveal it in us and in the world.

b)      God passionately loves us and sings to us because of what He chooses to remember and forget.

c)       The transformation of the world begins in the purifying of the church.

d)      What we remember and forget and the songs we sing rooted in our revelation of God will transform the world.

e)      Let us 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NKJV) — 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

f)        Zephaniah 3:14 (NKJV) — 14 Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!

g)       A singing and shouting church.

Speaker#1:
00:00:01.899 – 00:00:08.71
Before we pray I will make the correction from the bulletin It’s a singing and shouting church

Speaker#1:
00:00:09.319 – 00:00:20.85
not a signing Although we do want signs and wonders and wherever the gospel goes forth there are signs and wonders So it was a fortuitous typo but it is a typo nonetheless

Speaker#1:
00:00:21.7 – 00:00:26.309
So let’s go ahead and pray Lord we are just so excited

Speaker#1:
00:00:27.02 – 00:00:50.79
that Jesus Christ is lord over all We’re so excited Lord God that you rule and reign over all things for the sake of your church And Lord you have invested in these jars of clay power from on high And I just pray Lord God as we get into your word that you would reveal yourself to us in such a manner Lord God that again rivers of living water will flow from us

Speaker#1:
00:00:51.59 – 00:00:54.349
because Christ is enthroned in our hearts

Speaker#1:
00:00:55.319 – 00:00:58.97
to this world that it would come into the obedience of Christ

Speaker#1:
00:00:59.779 – 00:01:04.69
and that all men everywhere would bend the knee and confess Jesus Christ as Lord

Speaker#1:
00:01:05.37 – 00:01:05.959
amen

Speaker#1:
00:01:06.65 – 00:01:09.389
Let’s turn this down just a little more Thank you very much

Speaker#1:
00:01:11.23 – 00:01:13.349
a singing and shouting church

Speaker#1:
00:01:14.059 – 00:01:15.12
We’re gonna begin

Speaker#1:
00:01:15.69 – 00:01:23.779
by talking about why I love scripture and it’s not going to be an exhaustive list because if it was an exhaustive list we would never get into the message

Speaker#1:
00:01:24.8 – 00:01:29.919
But the goal I would say of scripture is to see and know Jesus

Speaker#1:
00:01:32.4 – 00:01:35.919
we get to see and know him through the things that he says and does

Speaker#1:
00:01:36.809 – 00:01:41.889
And I would challenge that everything he says and does reveals his heart and who he is

Speaker#1:
00:01:42.769 – 00:01:45.599
Scriptures testify about Jesus

Speaker#1:
00:01:46.41 – 00:01:51.23
And when we realize that it really does reveal Christ

Speaker#1:
00:01:52.47 – 00:01:54.94
we have a very simple way

Speaker#1:
00:01:55.62 – 00:02:04.37
I need to know God I need an encounter with God I feel like God is very far away Well if I want to get to know somebody I want to have a conversation with them

Speaker#1:
00:02:05.08 – 00:02:19.86
their heart is imparted the greatest way A person’s heart is imparted is through language and communication And you can always hear from God because we’ve He’s been he’s given us his holy word And that to me is super exciting

Speaker#1:
00:02:20.47 – 00:02:23.419
I would also say that the more we come to know Him

Speaker#1:
00:02:24.419 – 00:02:27.919
the more beautiful and glorious he becomes in our perception

Speaker#1:
00:02:28.649 – 00:02:51.279
There’s never a time when you read the Bible and you say wow I know it all I’ve seen it all I got it Check the boxes One of the most exciting things about scripture is it’s always getting deeper and richer and the the revelation of God is getting clearer and He becomes more precious to us as we come to know him more

Speaker#1:
00:02:52.169 – 00:02:53.979
And as we grow to love him

Speaker#1:
00:02:54.52 – 00:02:56.979
we be we desire to become more like him

Speaker#1:
00:02:58.179 – 00:03:04.199
That really is a bib biblical principle As we see him we become like him

Speaker#1:
00:03:05.039 – 00:03:28.07
It’s empowerment And we’ve been studying the new covenant and we read when Paul spoke to the Corinthians about this we behold his glory and we are transformed into that glory It says in the twinkling of an eye as the last trumpet sounds we will all be transformed So to the level that we see him is the level we become like him To me that is super exciting

Speaker#1:
00:03:28.72 – 00:03:36.52
And when we become like him we bring his light to the world If anybody thinks that this world doesn’t need some lights turned on

Speaker#1:
00:03:39.3 – 00:03:45.169
I don’t even know what to say I give up Now I’m just joking I don’t ever give up But the point is is that

Speaker#1:
00:03:45.69 – 00:04:07.6
we bring light to this world to the extent to which we see him and the world definitely needs light And so many people are seeing so much darkness in the world and they think there’s no hope Well all the darkness completely loses in a fight with the light There is no room where the darkness wins when you turn on the light

Speaker#1:
00:04:08.779 – 00:04:37.559
So really all this world needs is for the lights to be turned on and the darkness flees It happens in our life and it happens in our families It happens in our communities the light causes the darkness to flee The darkness cannot exist they cannot coexist There is no fellowship between darkness and light There is no such thing as it being able to coexist You want to destroy the darkness turn on the light That’s simple

Speaker#1:
00:04:38.7 – 00:04:47.829
as we are enlightened through scripture Our world becomes enlightened and we begin to see the Lord more and more alive and active and moving

Speaker#1:
00:04:48.54 – 00:04:50.299
in our midst and in the world

Speaker#1:
00:04:51.23 – 00:05:08.209
that what I’m saying here is a very important part I say as we train ourselves to see the Lord through special revelation because that’s what I’m talking about The word of God is special revelation As we train ourselves to see the Lord through special revelation

Speaker#1:
00:05:08.809 – 00:05:16.049
we develop the ability to see Him through general revelation Does that make sense

Speaker#1:
00:05:17.85 – 00:05:47.649
Praise God it makes sense I don’t see every eye telling me It makes sense So one of the things that excites me when I was a new Christian it was this pattern of enlightenment through God’s word And a lot of times when you’re enlightened through God’s word sometimes it challenges you that you’re not in agreement with it Does that make sense And not And it’s not oh I feel condemned because I’m not in agreement What happens is I see something and I think wow I want to experience that

Speaker#1:
00:05:48.0 – 00:06:17.23
And so like when I was a brand new Christian I grew up in the public schools grew up in a very liberal area and the world was a mechanistic machine God was far away He was not part of everyday life You just didn’t see him and then you’re stumbling upon scripture and you say it says the heavens declare the glory of God or it talks about his invisible attributes are clearly seen being understood through the things that are made even his eternal power in Godhead

Speaker#1:
00:06:17.779 – 00:06:22.19
And when I read those types of scriptures I said wow

Speaker#1:
00:06:22.769 – 00:06:39.779
but that’s not my experience but that’s what your word says But there’s this discrepancy between my experience and what your word says And so I said God your word says this So I ask you to open up my eyes to see your attributes and the things that you have made

Speaker#1:
00:06:40.94 – 00:06:58.66
But it’s actually more interesting than that It’s not just when even as the years have gone by the opening up of my eyes has not just been in the world in the stars in the heavens and the skies and the rocks trees or it’s in all of creation including history

Speaker#1:
00:06:59.51 – 00:07:14.619
Your eyes open up the Bible actually really trains you to see history correctly because a lot of the Bible is a history book And when you read it you start to discover that history is just an interaction and communication with God in the world

Speaker#1:
00:07:15.149 – 00:07:40.489
Everything is dependent on this covenant relationship And so then you go back and you read history and you say oh my gosh God you’ve been at work among all peoples of all time throughout all ages And when righteousness has prevailed the people rejoice when sin prevails the people grown and it all has to do with our relationship with God whom do we worship Isn’t that interesting

Speaker#1:
00:07:41.079 – 00:07:48.98
And I’ll get into this later later today But the best one of the best places we discover God in general revelation is in man

Speaker#1:
00:07:49.6 – 00:07:51.35
because we’re his image bears

Speaker#1:
00:07:52.04 – 00:08:11.88
interesting right So the point is is that as we get tuned to special revelation reading God’s word and starting to see Jesus our eyes become open to see him at work in the world to see his handiwork to see his glory his beauty and the things that is made that he has made and the things that he’s done

Speaker#1:
00:08:12.899 – 00:08:18.649
And I pray Lord God that it would happen even more and more because this is not a world that is devoid of God

Speaker#1:
00:08:19.279 – 00:08:21.89
but in Him we live and move and have our being

Speaker#1:
00:08:23.07 – 00:08:26.359
wow Lord open our eyes to that one right

Speaker#1:
00:08:28.589 – 00:08:32.809
So that being said that was the introduction to why we want to read scripture

Speaker#1:
00:08:33.33 – 00:08:36.489
And I want to take a glimpse of the Lord through Zephaniah

Speaker#1:
00:08:37.58 – 00:08:38.83
The context

Speaker#1:
00:08:39.669 – 00:08:42.158
is Zeph and I 38 through 13

Speaker#1:
00:08:43.28 – 00:08:50.799
And what we read in there is that out of God’s jealousy he brings judgment upon the earth

Speaker#1:
00:08:51.7 – 00:09:02.33
Well jealousy that pro and I don’t really like that English translation of what’s going on But I can’t think of a better word because jealousy in the human realm

Speaker#1:
00:09:03.539 – 00:09:30.14
is petty It’s sinful It’s not what the scripture is talking about when it says that God is a jealous God The picture is more like I care so much about people that I want them to experience my love and my goodness and my grace I’m so jealous to see people experience life as I created them for and to see them treated the way that I intended them to be treated Does that make sense

Speaker#1:
00:09:30.409 – 00:09:48.419
When it says that He is jealous Because he’s jealous he brings judgment on the earth and judgment You know like again it’s a lot of times when people hear judgment they think oh God is just a big man angry God in heaven wanting to smack us down like whack a mole No judgment is

Speaker#1:
00:09:48.429 – 00:10:17.88
you cleanse the world of unrighteousness When you break the yoke of oppression when you set at liberty the captive judgment is always against one party in favor of another where the righteous are vindicated in the wicked perish Every time judgment happens the wicked perish from the earth and people experience liberty and freedom But God doesn’t bring judgment all the time because He says that he’s not willing that any should perish but gives people time to repent

Speaker#1:
00:10:18.82 – 00:10:21.989
And while He’s giving people time to repent

Speaker#1:
00:10:22.5 – 00:10:26.669
we all have to suffer under the injustices and tyranny of sin

Speaker#1:
00:10:28.01 – 00:10:41.849
So even his withholding of judgment is an act of love Everything he does is good and wonderful But because of his jealousy he brings judgment to the ends of the earth for a purpose

Speaker#1:
00:10:42.659 – 00:10:48.489
39 for then I will restore to the people’s a pure language

Speaker#1:
00:10:49.739 – 00:10:55.119
that they may call on the name of the Lord to serve him with one accord

Speaker#1:
00:10:56.619 – 00:10:59.08
What an incredible picture isn’t it

Speaker#1:
00:10:59.669 – 00:11:16.489
And we’ve been studying a lot of passages in scripture and asking where do you locate this in your worldview Do you locate it in you know such a distant future after you know Christ returns that it has no relevance to this life

Speaker#1:
00:11:17.489 – 00:11:20.969
or are these promises of things he’s going to do in history

Speaker#1:
00:11:22.75 – 00:11:39.14
We’ve studied so many of these passages and people can interpret them different ways But just think about the Lord’s prayer your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven If we don’t believe that these promises and these possibilities could be experienced in this life

Speaker#1:
00:11:40.64 – 00:11:46.419
then we lose a lot of the fire and passion and boldness and faith to change the world

Speaker#1:
00:11:52.02 – 00:11:54.059
So I think that’s what a great picture

Speaker#1:
00:11:54.89 – 00:12:00.0
that they may all call on the name of the Lord all the nations and all the people

Speaker#1:
00:12:00.78 – 00:12:02.969
and serve him with one accord

Speaker#1:
00:12:04.28 – 00:12:14.14
And really when you get into the actual nuances of the passage you see that there’s also people not doing it in the world at the same time It’s really interesting but we’re not going to go into that because that’s not what I want to get to

Speaker#1:
00:12:14.95 – 00:12:22.099
But he’s going to bring an incredible transformation on planet Earth

Speaker#1:
00:12:23.369 – 00:12:26.159
And the strategy in that passage is so interesting

Speaker#1:
00:12:26.869 – 00:12:29.969
He removes the proud and the arrogant from the church

Speaker#1:
00:12:32.53 – 00:13:01.15
He he basically purifies the church He purifies his pride That is his strategy to transform the world seeing This is so important because it makes what we do here every Sunday It makes what we do here throughout the week It makes our walk with God throughout the week And our commitment to Jesus Christ of utmost importance Does it do we care about the world Do we care about the darkness in the world Do we care about what’s going on Do we care about people What’s happening in their lives

Speaker#1:
00:13:02.01 – 00:13:04.669
purify the church transform the world

Speaker#1:
00:13:05.369 – 00:13:18.46
revive the church transform the world turn on the light where by getting rid of all the darkness in the church the things that are not church that are not true and faithful to what Christ has instituted

Speaker#1:
00:13:19.02 – 00:13:20.65
Interesting thoughts aren’t they

Speaker#1:
00:13:21.51 – 00:13:46.049
And and and so we’ve been studying a lot of these passages about He’s coming back for a pure spotless bride without spot or wrinkle or these gifts are going to operate in the church until we all come to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ as a per of a perfect man Zephaniah 3 13 That’s why these things connect He talks about the purified Church The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness

Speaker#1:
00:13:48.45 – 00:13:57.919
Do we really see I mean these things are said in scripture and they’re challenging the remnant The Purified Church shall do no unrighteousness

Speaker#1:
00:13:58.77 – 00:14:14.919
and speak no lies nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth for they shall feed their flocks and lie down and no one shall make them afraid Isn’t it a beautiful picture of what Christ can do within the church of what he can do with his bride

Speaker#1:
00:14:15.58 – 00:14:30.059
I think it’s really exciting and you see how that connects with he’s coming back for a pure spotless bride without spot or wrinkle or until they reach the the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ It’s all over scripture old and new testament That is exciting to me

Speaker#1:
00:14:37.099 – 00:14:39.95
It shows God’s heart and purposes in the earth

Speaker#1:
00:14:43.489 – 00:14:52.44
And one of the things that I that we’ve really been talking about if it’s really about purifying the bride and reviving the church and transforming the church

Speaker#1:
00:14:53.669 – 00:15:04.28
I mean we just read there I mean I’ll read it again It’s so interesting There shall be no unr they shall do no unrighteousness we’re talking about purification aren’t we

Speaker#1:
00:15:05.159 – 00:15:08.929
And one of the big questions is how does the church become purified

Speaker#1:
00:15:09.5 – 00:15:38.679
Because a misunderstanding of purification takes words of life and makes them oppressive and makes them uh bring forth bondage rather than transformation doesn’t it How we expect purification is essential And I and and and these are things that we talk about regularly because when we understand how does the church purify itself and we break the spirit of legalism and condemnation and we break the spirit of criticism

Speaker#1:
00:15:38.89 – 00:15:42.859
and we find power from on high to live a transformed life

Speaker#1:
00:15:45.219 – 00:16:12.01
The darkness is gonna be broken the lights are gonna be turned on John 15 123 I am the vine and my father is the vine dresser Every branch in me that does not bear fruit He takes away That’s what we just read wasn’t it He’s gonna if you actually read that passage he’s purifying the church He takes away all of the vine that doesn’t bear fruit in every branch that bears fruit He prunes that it may bear more fruit

Speaker#1:
00:16:12.38 – 00:16:17.83
Oh Lord prune us Oh Lord purifies Oh Lord let us bear fruit

Speaker#1:
00:16:18.59 – 00:16:32.03
And then Jesus says this amazing word and that’s why I kind of tied it here I picked this verse this time because we talked earlier about the powerful transformative nature of God’s word That as we see Him we become like him

Speaker#1:
00:16:32.83 – 00:16:47.59
a clue to purification because then Jesus says something So in this passage that is so unique and so strange If you don’t have other contacts he says you are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you

Speaker#1:
00:16:49.59 – 00:16:50.51
What

Speaker#1:
00:16:51.429 – 00:16:53.469
I’m cleaned by your word

Speaker#1:
00:16:54.08 – 00:16:58.659
Your word that you spoke to me cleaned me That’s what it says

Speaker#1:
00:17:01.229 – 00:17:27.05
I am the vine You are the branches If you abide in me and my word abides in you you will bear much fruit You are clean because of my word that I’ve spoken to you His word has the seed and the potential and the power to transform our whole lives That’s why we dig into scripture so much because it really has that kind of transformative power

Speaker#1:
00:17:28.369 – 00:17:33.13
to change us from the inside out and to me that’s super exciting

Speaker#1:
00:17:33.78 – 00:17:41.91
So now the passage that I really wanted to read and where we got you know the title of this message and what

Speaker#1:
00:17:43.199 – 00:17:59.31
I believe the Lord has for us is Zephaniah 3 14 through 17 sing oh daughter of Zion Shout oh Israel Be glad and rejoice with all your heart O daughter of Jerusalem

Speaker#1:
00:18:00.81 – 00:18:03.53
Hey man there’s a command of scripture

Speaker#1:
00:18:05.349 – 00:18:06.469
It’s a command

Speaker#1:
00:18:07.02 – 00:18:10.27
It’s a command Sing and shout

Speaker#1:
00:18:13.609 – 00:18:26.8
Maybe I’m shouting a little bit but he just told me to right The Lord just told us to shout to the Lord with the voice of triumph Praise the Lord worship him Hold nothing back

Speaker#1:
00:18:27.89 – 00:18:32.819
hold nothing back and give him the praise and glory and honor that he is due

Speaker#1:
00:18:36.38 – 00:18:40.42
Do you realize that that command can actually be a burden and can be oppressive

Speaker#1:
00:18:43.589 – 00:18:45.15
What what do you mean

Speaker#1:
00:18:47.26 – 00:18:52.109
without context And without empowerment without more

Speaker#1:
00:18:53.089 – 00:18:57.829
For a lot of people a command to shout and sing

Speaker#1:
00:18:59.119 – 00:19:07.25
could just make them feel worse and make them feel wretched and make them feel guilty God has commanded me to sing and to shout and I just feel like crap

Speaker#1:
00:19:07.939 – 00:19:12.369
I feel unworthy I feel wretched I feel How can I sing

Speaker#1:
00:19:13.15 – 00:19:15.75
when I feel so low when I feel so bad

Speaker#1:
00:19:16.319 – 00:19:17.01
Right

Speaker#1:
00:19:20.25 – 00:19:21.67
I mean it’s a good question isn’t it

Speaker#1:
00:19:22.199 – 00:19:26.64
a command like this That should be so life giving could bring death

Speaker#1:
00:19:27.199 – 00:19:48.76
Now again we also have another type of Christian that I find really fun and refreshing because they are so straight in a way that it says God commanded me to sing and shout and I don’t care how I feel I’m going to do it He said to do it And and they’re actually that actually works too because you can’t when you’re singing and you’re shouting you can’t feel like crap

Speaker#1:
00:19:49.359 – 00:20:06.18
I mean it’s just I don’t know why but it’s just true It was like when I talk to somebody and they’re like feeling like crap and they they’re saying they’re saying yeah I pray all the time And I said I bet I bet you I know how you pray You pray lying on your bed right Yeah How do you know I don’t know I just a good guess

Speaker#1:
00:20:06.829 – 00:20:18.369
And I said next time you this was a person who never heard about the Holy spirit never heard about Pentecostal movement any of this stuff Um Just a real simple down to earth kind of blue collar person

Speaker#1:
00:20:19.54 – 00:20:22.369
And I said the next time you go to pray stand up

Speaker#1:
00:20:23.099 – 00:20:35.89
lift your hands up to heaven Both of them I have a microphone They can’t hear me online if I demonstrate it And I said start your prayer like this Lord I thank you that Jesus died for my sins and that you love me

Speaker#1:
00:20:38.01 – 00:20:44.469
Next time I came to visit her she says Bill you don’t know Something happened to me I did what you said

Speaker#1:
00:20:45.05 – 00:20:57.04
like she didn’t have to she didn’t theorize about it She just simply obeyed and I didn’t know it was going to happen either She said I did what you said and sun started bubbling in my stomach and I started talking in this funny language

Speaker#1:
00:20:58.449 – 00:21:26.739
I was like have you ever heard of the gifts of the spirit No Well that’s what you experienced She didn’t talk she didn’t go to the life in the Spirit seminar She didn’t do any of that stuff It just was from darkness to light just by getting off her bed lifting up her hands and starting with God I thank you that Jesus died for my sins and you love me And then after that it’s like the the the well got unstuck and rivers of living water started to flow

Speaker#1:
00:21:27.0 – 00:21:39.63
It’s pretty cool isn’t it But the other side of that is I really do want to take a time to think about the fact that so many people do not feel good enough to sing and to shout

Speaker#1:
00:21:40.589 – 00:21:55.489
They don’t feel that God loves them They don’t feel worthy They know all their faults they know all their mistakes and they feel weighed down by the cares and concerns of this world Even though if you lift your hands and just go for it and sing and shout It would probably break that yoke

Speaker#1:
00:21:56.77 – 00:22:00.9
But that’s why this passage has more It doesn’t just give you that command

Speaker#1:
00:22:01.579 – 00:22:02.619
It says

Speaker#1:
00:22:03.449 – 00:22:21.199
the Lord why grounded in a reason So scripture the very next breath says the Lord has taken away your judgments He has cast out your enemy the king of Israel the Lord is in your midst You shall see disaster no more

Speaker#1:
00:22:21.75 – 00:22:33.78
in that day It shall be said to Jerusalem Do not fear Zion Let not your hands be weak The Lord your God is in your midst the mighty one He will save you

Speaker#1:
00:22:34.67 – 00:22:41.339
He will rejoice over you with gladness He will quiet you with his love

Speaker#1:
00:22:42.199 – 00:22:44.77
He will rejoice over you with singing

Speaker#1:
00:22:45.849 – 00:23:10.589
Wow I mean that’s pretty wild isn’t it But it’s revealing the heart of God it’s revealing who He is But I love this If your soul ever been unquiet before ever have trouble sleeping he will quiet your soul when you have this revelation of who he is And what he does He’s a warrior who goes to a war for his people because he loves them

Speaker#1:
00:23:11.89 – 00:23:30.01
He’s a warrior that goes over to war for you because he loves you and he fights so many battles for you that you don’t even know of because he loves you and he loves to bless you He loves to deliver you He loves to experience you

Speaker#1:
00:23:30.689 – 00:23:32.199
It’s exciting isn’t it

Speaker#1:
00:23:33.0 – 00:23:36.39
But it also says he rejoices over you

Speaker#1:
00:23:37.709 – 00:23:45.119
Like I mean my kids I love my kids I rejoice over them and I sing stupid made up songs to them all the time

Speaker#1:
00:23:46.479 – 00:23:54.79
You know like if I get them smiling it makes me happy I love to make them smile and I am crappy compared to God

Speaker#1:
00:23:55.8 – 00:24:08.05
He loves to make us smile He loves to see us full of joy He loves us He literally looks into every one of our lives and celebrates our life

Speaker#1:
00:24:09.339 – 00:24:11.219
and he sings to us

Speaker#1:
00:24:12.91 – 00:24:17.89
This is what scripture says It’s a revelation of who he is

Speaker#1:
00:24:19.109 – 00:24:44.43
And when we get that revelation into heart it changes us and we we go and do likewise singing over one another singing and making melody in our hearts unto God Do not be drunk on wine which is dissipation but be filled with the spirit singing to one another in psalms hymns and spiritual songs singing and making melody in your heart unto God

Speaker#1:
00:24:45.05 – 00:24:51.599
And that song could be so simple to try to quiet their souls and bring joy into their life

Speaker#1:
00:24:53.41 – 00:24:56.489
It’s beautiful isn’t it It’s beautiful

Speaker#1:
00:24:57.76 – 00:25:08.979
I mean this this passage is so glorious and it makes me think we love because he first loved us And when we see this kind of love we go and love others The same way

Speaker#1:
00:25:10.339 – 00:25:32.329
singing is a part of God’s design and has its root in God I mean we don’t think about that often job 38 4 through seven Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth Tell me if you have understanding who determined its measurements surely you know or who stretched the line upon it

Speaker#1:
00:25:33.41 – 00:25:47.119
to what were its foundations fastened or who laid its cornerstone laid the cornerstone of the earth How did you lay that cornerstone When the morning stars sang together

Speaker#1:
00:25:48.42 – 00:25:51.4
and all the sons of God shouted for joy

Speaker#1:
00:25:52.349 – 00:25:56.589
What a beautiful picture of creation itself

Speaker#1:
00:25:58.05 – 00:25:59.709
and of the heart of God

Speaker#1:
00:26:04.189 – 00:26:09.589
When this kind of spirit is normal in the church it will transform the world

Speaker#1:
00:26:10.79 – 00:26:17.51
Think about it That’s what we we’re peering into and catching a vision of the atmosphere of heaven

Speaker#1:
00:26:18.4 – 00:26:29.76
the heart of God And it’s beautiful isn’t it Even when he laid the cornerstone of creation the morning stars sang together

Speaker#1:
00:26:30.77 – 00:26:42.31
and the sons of God shouted for joy What a beautiful picture Lord let it be represented in our life in our community and the way we live our daily life

Speaker#1:
00:26:44.489 – 00:26:55.64
I was always intrigued in the early days of studying theology And I personally think it’s a import from Greek philosophy because God does not change

Speaker#1:
00:26:56.209 – 00:27:03.619
So he doesn’t really feel emotion And so all of these scriptures are really anthropomorphism hogwash

Speaker#1:
00:27:04.31 – 00:27:05.55
Oh gosh

Speaker#1:
00:27:08.119 – 00:27:25.8
I would challenge Remember we were talking about general revelation and God’s invisible attributes are clearly seen by the things that he’s made even his eternal power in God head And that men and women are created in the image of God and are his unique image bearers

Speaker#1:
00:27:26.699 – 00:27:31.349
And so you want to learn about God A lot of times you just have to look into human beings

Speaker#1:
00:27:32.5 – 00:27:42.829
because you learn a lot about God by human beings We love to love we love fellowship we love community we love all kinds of things and they bring life to us

Speaker#1:
00:27:43.79 – 00:27:56.89
It’s a reflection of God’s image in us I like to ask people all the time because it’s just a fun question And I love the answers We give the the biblically literate give me will give me bible answers But I asked even some little kids I said

Speaker#1:
00:27:57.829 – 00:28:00.68
uh what did I Does God laugh

Speaker#1:
00:28:02.329 – 00:28:03.63
Does God laugh

Speaker#1:
00:28:04.189 – 00:28:11.54
And I’ve even had little kids sit and think about it and they said well we laugh and it makes us feel really good So it must be from God

Speaker#1:
00:28:12.959 – 00:28:15.599
You’re getting general revelation Now

Speaker#1:
00:28:16.63 – 00:28:22.64
you’re learning about God If laughter is life to the soul it has its root in God

Speaker#1:
00:28:23.29 – 00:28:24.52
Isn’t that awesome

Speaker#1:
00:28:25.03 – 00:28:28.26
singing When we sing with joy

Speaker#1:
00:28:29.55 – 00:28:43.869
it touches our soul it can lift us up it can transform us It has its root in God and we just read the scriptures But other people could figure that out just by the fact of the power of singing in our own lives

Speaker#1:
00:28:45.41 – 00:28:49.75
If you sing the right songs you cannot feel bad

Speaker#1:
00:28:50.599 – 00:29:19.599
But I find it so interesting Like I love the whole idea of the Doctrine of the Spheres That’s something from philosophy that I did enjoy And this idea that and and really they I mean they’re right Everything gives off waves all matter gives off waves and waves and sound are intimately connected That’s why in the in the quadrivium it was um math and geometry music and astronomy because music is math and motion

Speaker#1:
00:29:21.239 – 00:29:33.42
in astronomy is geometry and motion Isn’t that interesting And so the doctrine of the spheres is that all of creation is in harmony and it gives off sound or music There’s a song of creation

Speaker#1:
00:29:34.069 – 00:29:51.52
all things give off music if we could hear it And that’s why I just love somebody like CS Lewis who takes that doctrine in the space trilogy And one of the books in the trilogy is out of The Silent Planet which just takes this idea that all of creation is singing a song of praise unto God

Speaker#1:
00:29:53.53 – 00:30:06.64
But the earth the ruler of Earth has fallen out of the song and It’s The Silent Planet and redemption is bringing us back into that song Isn’t that beautiful It’s a beautiful picture

Speaker#1:
00:30:08.01 – 00:30:09.819
God loves to sing

Speaker#1:
00:30:10.479 – 00:30:20.29
and all of creation was made to praise him But those same Greek philosophers said that when the law when the modes of music change the laws of the state change

Speaker#1:
00:30:22.359 – 00:30:31.839
And they said in a perfect society a philosopher would control the music which I don’t like the totalitarian tendencies there Plato thank you very much So that’s another story

Speaker#1:
00:30:32.5 – 00:30:38.43
But they’re on to something they said there’s no quicker way to destroy a society than through its music

Speaker#1:
00:30:39.979 – 00:31:07.14
right So one sense what is the you know like one of the things I loved about Lewis Lewis is just one of the one of the heroes right And you know like one of the one of the Narnia books when he was talking I think it was useless and he was confronted with a dragon He didn’t know what to do It said because he had read all the wrong books So he didn’t know what to do when confronted with a dragon And we could say maybe the problem in the world today is we’re singing all the wrong songs

Speaker#1:
00:31:08.13 – 00:31:29.27
We’ve got the wrong music in our soul the wrong music in our heart But this whole thing I love about classical education I’m so far in a rabbit trail forgive me But everything is musical because like what happens a lot of times we restrict the ability to transform the world when we restrict it in a very legalistic fashion

Speaker#1:
00:31:30.069 – 00:31:38.979
So like we say well the creative things are like painting and sculpture and music No everything is creative

Speaker#1:
00:31:39.17 – 00:32:02.63
everything is creative You know we designed a pulpit and a microphone and a building in air conditioning and cars and planes and satellites and internet and computers It’s all people creating the image of God creating imagining and creating and it’s musical It’s a type of music It’s a type of song But when that song is corrupt it’s used for the wrong ends

Speaker#1:
00:32:03.25 – 00:32:11.989
That’s why even speaking and preaching or writing can be musical that they use the term the muses right Inspired

Speaker#1:
00:32:13.79 – 00:32:26.27
musical But the idea is that it has to reach past just the intellect and get into the heart to get transformation and the vehicle of music does that by nature

Speaker#1:
00:32:27.54 – 00:32:45.979
But sometimes when somebody is in darkness and you bring a word of communication that encourages them and builds them up or breaks a yoke It’s like a song of praise or rus in their life It’s like they turn from singing one song to another song It’s pretty interesting isn’t it to think about

Speaker#1:
00:32:46.68 – 00:33:01.099
But music is at at the very it’s just so interesting music was there from the beginning when the morning stars sang and the sons of God shouted for joy sing and shout

Speaker#1:
00:33:02.66 – 00:33:04.239
It’s in the heart of God

Speaker#1:
00:33:08.18 – 00:33:11.229
The big question though is how can God sing over us

Speaker#1:
00:33:12.31 – 00:33:15.109
when we know how imperfect we are

Speaker#1:
00:33:17.28 – 00:33:31.939
I mean that’s one of the big challenges that people have I hear what you’re saying God sings over me God rejoices over me but I don’t see how he can sing and rejoice over me when I know how bad I am

Speaker#1:
00:33:32.689 – 00:33:40.42
I know how far short I fall all the time How is this even possible I think you’re full of crap

Speaker#1:
00:33:41.719 – 00:33:50.979
I’m in a bad mood today and he said that we’re too many times in church You’re suspended Sorry But do you understand what I’m saying

Speaker#1:
00:33:51.54 – 00:33:57.349
You know so many people feel that way At least Paul said it worse than me So I’m still keeping it clean

Speaker#1:
00:34:00.0 – 00:34:06.109
sorry But it really is true How can God sing over us

Speaker#1:
00:34:06.989 – 00:34:08.28
when we’re so crummy

Speaker#1:
00:34:08.86 – 00:34:10.12
See I behaved

Speaker#1:
00:34:11.33 – 00:34:16.928
He so loved the world he gave we were pretty crummy then while we were yet enemies he gave his son

Speaker#1:
00:34:19.158 – 00:34:24.04
But this is the key to creating a transformed community that will change the world

Speaker#1:
00:34:27.178 – 00:34:34.658
When we know the answer to that question it’s the key to creating a transformed community that will change the world

Speaker#1:
00:34:38.959 – 00:34:42.128
So I put a point that says what God forgets

Speaker#1:
00:34:43.08 – 00:34:44.51
So he can remember

Speaker#1:
00:34:47.25 – 00:34:48.87
we have to forget

Speaker#1:
00:34:49.56 – 00:34:53.85
We have to choose what to forget in life and we have to choose what to remember

Speaker#1:
00:34:55.969 – 00:35:01.989
That’s the key to transform community what we choose to forget And what we choose to remember

Speaker#1:
00:35:07.32 – 00:35:09.35
And that’s how God can sing over us

Speaker#1:
00:35:11.03 – 00:35:19.58
how he can just celebrate us because of what He chooses to forget and what He chooses to remember about each and every one of us

Speaker#1:
00:35:20.75 – 00:35:23.669
Jeremiah 31 33 to 34

Speaker#1:
00:35:24.37 – 00:35:40.179
We’ve been reading this a lot and studying it a lot But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days says the Lord I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts and I will be their God and they will be my people no more Shall every man teach his neighbor and every man his brother

Speaker#1:
00:35:40.189 – 00:35:56.01
saying know the Lord for they will all know me because that’s what I want I want to know you and I want you to know me I want us to know each other I want us to have fellowship I want us to have communion I want us to have a relationship

Speaker#1:
00:35:57.719 – 00:36:08.379
for They will know me from the least to the greatest of them Says the Lord for I will forgive their iniquity and their sin I will remember no more

Speaker#1:
00:36:11.689 – 00:36:17.629
How can God sing and rejoice over us I forgot your sins

Speaker#1:
00:36:18.199 – 00:36:24.25
I choose to forget your faults I choose to forget your failures

Speaker#1:
00:36:24.909 – 00:36:27.979
And I remember what is good true and beautiful

Speaker#1:
00:36:29.59 – 00:36:42.719
love takes no account of what is wrong but rejoices in what is right I remember everything that’s wonderful every quirk every fun thing about how I created you every fun thing

Speaker#1:
00:36:43.58 – 00:36:59.32
in your life Like when you watch your kids or you watch your friends and you just love the people that make your life beautiful And you remember the blessing and you remember the beauty and you remember the good and you have to forget their faults and their failures

Speaker#1:
00:37:00.649 – 00:37:09.79
Because when you choose to remember their faults and their failures community is destroyed relationship is destroyed and everything falls apart

Speaker#1:
00:37:10.949 – 00:37:12.949
But when you forget

Speaker#1:
00:37:14.32 – 00:37:18.11
people’s faults and shortcomings and you remember

Speaker#1:
00:37:18.83 – 00:37:20.459
how wonderful they are

Speaker#1:
00:37:21.12 – 00:37:25.26
that’s the key to a transformed community And it has its heart in God

Speaker#1:
00:37:30.909 – 00:37:33.32
What is truly satisfying in life

Speaker#1:
00:37:34.33 – 00:37:36.199
is not keeping the rules

Speaker#1:
00:37:37.719 – 00:37:39.5
but enjoying God in one another

Speaker#1:
00:37:42.32 – 00:37:44.629
One element of the rules

Speaker#1:
00:37:45.219 – 00:37:49.36
is that when we love one another we want to bless rather than harm others

Speaker#1:
00:37:50.29 – 00:37:54.3
I mean because you know because once you start going down this road you’ve got to qualify it don’t you

Speaker#1:
00:37:55.03 – 00:38:01.35
What I’m saying is best said by Paul what shall we say then Should we continue And sin that grace may abound Certainly not

Speaker#1:
00:38:04.1 – 00:38:09.959
because we just you know one of the things I don’t want people to get the idea are we saying that sin doesn’t matter No sin matters

Speaker#1:
00:38:10.5 – 00:38:20.78
because sin is what hurts others Sin is what harms others It’s not a checklist of things to make you feel like you’re right with God or not Right with God it’s what really hurts people

Speaker#1:
00:38:21.429 – 00:38:29.12
And when you really love God you start to love others and when you love others you don’t want to cause them harm you want to bless them and build them up

Speaker#1:
00:38:30.09 – 00:38:38.739
But the but the question is how do we create a context where people go from faith to faith and glory to glory where their sins are taken away

Speaker#1:
00:38:40.139 – 00:38:41.429
It’s through forgiveness

Speaker#1:
00:38:42.179 – 00:38:49.26
It’s through forgetting and remembering forgetting the fault and remembering the good So forgive

Speaker#1:
00:38:49.959 – 00:38:50.969
forgive

Speaker#1:
00:38:51.87 – 00:38:54.83
It’s the power of a transformed life Forgive

Speaker#1:
00:38:55.729 – 00:38:57.959
but they didn’t repent Forgive

Speaker#1:
00:38:58.989 – 00:39:17.959
You still have to forgive Do you have to forgive those that didn’t repent Yes you do If you don’t forgive it will kill you If you don’t forgive a root of bitterness will grow up And deo many if you don’t forgive I only have to forgive if they were you know like how many times do we have to forgive Seven times 70 times seven OK 4 90 great

Speaker#1:
00:39:19.469 – 00:39:22.689
Just 4 90 a day You do that 4 91 we’re done

Speaker#1:
00:39:24.11 – 00:39:28.409
But I would challenge you that anywhere you’re holding unforgiveness death

Speaker#1:
00:39:29.149 – 00:39:45.62
is growing anywhere you’re holding unforgiveness darkness is growing You don’t only forgive those who have apologized You don’t only forgive those who have repented to you You don’t only forgive those after they’ve done public acts of humiliation

Speaker#1:
00:39:48.53 – 00:39:53.84
Forgive It’s what you choose to forget and what you choose to remember

Speaker#1:
00:39:55.54 – 00:39:57.629
That’s what transforms the world

Speaker#1:
00:40:01.989 – 00:40:07.639
What we remember and what we forget is at the heart of building an authentic community that will transform the world

Speaker#1:
00:40:10.629 – 00:40:12.189
It creates a culture

Speaker#1:
00:40:13.199 – 00:40:17.6
when we do what we are saying that actually helps people become set free from sin

Speaker#1:
00:40:19.939 – 00:40:22.32
It’s motivated by love and not fear

Speaker#1:
00:40:23.739 – 00:40:33.129
It’s about manifesting the Kingdom of God his rule and reign made tangible It’s about a culture of life It’s about turning on the light in the world

Speaker#1:
00:40:33.649 – 00:40:34.949
and it’s powerful

Speaker#1:
00:40:39.949 – 00:40:42.84
I’m gonna read that Zephaniah 3 13 Again

Speaker#1:
00:40:44.949 – 00:40:57.08
the remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness and speak no lies nor shall deceitful tongue be found in their mouth for they shall feed their flocks and lie down and no one will make them afraid

Speaker#1:
00:40:59.679 – 00:41:03.429
The new covenant is about empowering that kind of reality

Speaker#1:
00:41:05.11 – 00:41:07.25
to love God and love one another

Speaker#1:
00:41:08.11 – 00:41:10.719
What we just read there is people keep the law

Speaker#1:
00:41:11.419 – 00:41:12.02
right

Speaker#1:
00:41:12.669 – 00:41:14.36
They do know unrighteousness

Speaker#1:
00:41:15.139 – 00:41:17.699
means they’re keeping the law right

Speaker#1:
00:41:18.689 – 00:41:20.879
The new covenant empowers us to do it

Speaker#1:
00:41:22.57 – 00:41:23.76
The New Testament

Speaker#1:
00:41:24.33 – 00:41:30.29
I will challenge because really these things are hard to talk about because it’s hard to figure out

Speaker#1:
00:41:30.939 – 00:41:40.909
how do we transform the world How do we become purified How do we go from faith to faith and glory to glory How do we

Speaker#1:
00:41:41.76 – 00:41:46.59
receive and experience He is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world

Speaker#1:
00:41:48.719 – 00:41:50.219
That’s the big question right

Speaker#1:
00:41:51.479 – 00:42:02.489
We know that the law written on tablets of stone kills and destroys We know that unforgiveness kills and destroys We know remembering each other’s fault kills and destroys

Speaker#1:
00:42:06.76 – 00:42:11.919
I would challenge like I I my my theory is that we had the 10 commandments of Mount Sinai

Speaker#1:
00:42:12.52 – 00:42:15.83
and then the the attitudes the sermon on the Mount

Speaker#1:
00:42:16.35 – 00:42:24.479
I would challenge are the laws that govern the Holy Spirit of God or the new covenant They are the laws of the new covenant I will challenge that A lot of the New Testament

Speaker#1:
00:42:25.02 – 00:42:34.61
is about the commands that empower you through the Holy Spirit to be transformed I’ve made a new covenant Does it mean that the

Speaker#1:
00:42:36.669 – 00:42:42.76
moral law or the code of the 10 commandments has changed Not at all It’s an expression of the character and nature of God

Speaker#1:
00:42:43.75 – 00:42:51.09
You’re never free to steal you’re never free to murder You’re never free to commit adultery or idolatry or whatever because those things are death

Speaker#1:
00:42:52.199 – 00:43:00.889
But the question is how do we become like Jesus how do we become loving How do we become righteous How do we become Holy How do we fulfill the law

Speaker#1:
00:43:01.78 – 00:43:12.929
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses they will know you are Christians by your love for one another It’s the power of the new covenant

Speaker#1:
00:43:19.27 – 00:43:43.59
It’s about manifesting the kingdom So we so really that’s really what the gospel of the kingdom right Jesus went around everywhere teaching and preaching the gospel of the kingdom The king has come The kingdom of darkness the kingdom of bondage the kingdom of sin is broken The kingdom of the devil is broken What does the Kingdom of God look like Right We need to understand we want to manifest the Kingdom of God our father in heaven

Speaker#1:
00:43:43.879 – 00:44:13.8
That your name be great that your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven We’ve been reading pictures of the singing and shouting That’s normal in the Kingdom of God There’s no songs in hell or at least there’s no songss of beauty and glory in hell Does that make sense when you’re in bondage and impression And when you’re way down when you’re depressed when you feel worthless when you feel hopeless there’s no songs of praise There’s no songs of adoration There’s no songs of celebration

Speaker#1:
00:44:13.939 – 00:44:29.219
There might be woes me I feel like crap and the world stinks and there’s no hope for me songs Those are not songs in the sense of what God created They’re the wrong kind of songs I think the devil was some theories is that he may have been a worship minister

Speaker#1:
00:44:30.229 – 00:44:36.82
Well he definitely has the wrong kind of songs because of the songs that kill steal and destroy and don’t bring life right

Speaker#1:
00:44:38.08 – 00:44:44.26
But the but the Kingdom of God we need a simple definition to pursue don’t we

Speaker#1:
00:44:44.979 – 00:44:54.53
a simple definition to pursue Romans 14 17 through 18 for the Kingdom of God is not in eating and drinking external roles You see it

Speaker#1:
00:44:55.51 – 00:45:00.979
but righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit and yet righteousness is still holiness

Speaker#1:
00:45:02.409 – 00:45:03.409
You see it there

Speaker#1:
00:45:03.969 – 00:45:19.629
It’s actually the manifestation of walking in love Don’t miss it Don’t don’t write off that first word righteousness but righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit Without the Holy Spirit you can’t have any of it

Speaker#1:
00:45:20.239 – 00:45:25.409
for He who serves Christ and these things is acceptable to God and approved by men

Speaker#1:
00:45:26.159 – 00:45:39.159
the Holy Spirit folks the new covenant the New Testament That’s what it’s all about restoring new covenant Christianity without power from on high The church has no power to storm the gates of hell

Speaker#1:
00:45:41.399 – 00:45:46.07
without power from on high It just becomes legalistic and dead

Speaker#1:
00:45:47.219 – 00:45:51.61
It becomes an oppressive system rather than something that’s genuinely life giving

Speaker#1:
00:45:53.34 – 00:46:11.189
But like I said before some people they focus on rules and it works out for them You know like I said if you like I told my friend try standing up and raising your hands and she just obeyed and didn’t ask why and did it and experienced power And like I said you could technically take that command sing and shout for joy And

Speaker#1:
00:46:11.85 – 00:46:13.62
you know you actually did it and

Speaker#1:
00:46:14.169 – 00:46:18.629
really hard to feel bad when you’re singing and shouting for joy right

Speaker#1:
00:46:19.489 – 00:46:29.35
So if you prefer to have a rule to focus on here is the rule of life for today First Thessalonians 5 16 through 22 Rejoice always

Speaker#1:
00:46:30.07 – 00:46:39.85
sounds like what we read earlier doesn’t it Rejoice Always pray without ceasing and everything Give thanks try giving thanks and rejoicing always and feeling bad

Speaker#1:
00:46:40.979 – 00:46:48.729
Try not having joy you know peace righteousness peace and joy while you’re giving thanks and rejoicing It just

Speaker#1:
00:46:49.639 – 00:46:51.02
it’s not possible right

Speaker#1:
00:46:51.679 – 00:46:52.959
But this is a command

Speaker#1:
00:46:53.5 – 00:47:19.29
So you want to command to obey Rejoice always pray without ceasing which means desire And it doesn’t mean literally go into the like the prayer closet and pray without ceasing It means constantly being communion and fellowship constantly desiring constantly worshiping constantly encountering walking in the presence of God in everything Give thanks for this is the will of God and Christ Jesus for you do not quench the spirit

Speaker#1:
00:47:20.31 – 00:47:36.489
because everything we’ve been reading about sing and shout for joy has a spirit to it doesn’t it And the Holy Spirit working and moving and do not despise prophecies test all things Hold what is hold fast to what is good and abstain from every form of evil

Speaker#1:
00:47:38.78 – 00:47:42.25
challenge that there is an intentional order in this passage

Speaker#1:
00:47:42.989 – 00:47:58.78
And I can prove it even from what’s in the passage But we’re going to start we’re going to do a fun we’re going to do a little fun exercise and work this paths each backwards and see if it bears the same results Is it interchangeable or is there an order Right I don’t know why but it just seems like a fun thing to do

Speaker#1:
00:47:59.37 – 00:48:08.159
So my my first command to you is abstain from every form of evil abstain from every form of evil

Speaker#1:
00:48:09.929 – 00:48:16.54
Test all things and hold fast to what is good is this feeling as life giving right

Speaker#1:
00:48:17.209 – 00:48:20.1
Do not despise prophecies

Speaker#1:
00:48:22.469 – 00:48:24.689
do not quench the spirit

Speaker#1:
00:48:25.989 – 00:48:28.479
for This is the will of Christ Jesus

Speaker#1:
00:48:29.679 – 00:48:30.489
for you

Speaker#1:
00:48:31.79 – 00:48:33.55
doesn’t work as good does it

Speaker#1:
00:48:34.489 – 00:48:56.939
No And and the proof is right there in the middle of that passage is this is the will of God in Christ Jesus from you And then all the other things come after So what is the will of Christ Jesus for you was defined actually by this passage rejoice always pray without ceasing and everything Give thanks for this is the will of Christ Jesus from you

Speaker#1:
00:48:57.229 – 00:49:06.899
And once that has been established then do not quench the spirit do not despise prophecies Test all things hold fast to what is good and abstain from every form of evil

Speaker#1:
00:49:07.62 – 00:49:18.61
But only those first three get This is the will of Christ Jesus for you They’re all commands right But can you see how this passage puts such a massive emphasis on the first three

Speaker#1:
00:49:19.51 – 00:49:26.469
So if you want something to really obey obey those first three and then the other then you can work on the other ones right

Speaker#1:
00:49:27.159 – 00:49:31.84
Right But really by obeying those first three it will transform your life

Speaker#1:
00:49:34.76 – 00:49:39.34
But I would say it seems like rejoicing is always a good description of the heart of God

Speaker#1:
00:49:39.989 – 00:49:43.469
It naturally expresses itself in song right

Speaker#1:
00:49:44.57 – 00:50:07.01
I and I’ll be honest I’m like I wanna be part of a church that storms the gates of hell I want to be part of a church that sits at liberty the captives I want to be part of the the the people that actually turn the light on in the world and don’t complain and don’t groan and get frustrated by the people who make a radical impact on planet earth And I really believe the Bible teaches us how to do it right

Speaker#1:
00:50:08.04 – 00:50:12.27
So revelations 15 1 through four a just saving time

Speaker#1:
00:50:13.0 – 00:50:21.629
Then I saw another sign in the heaven A great and it was great and marvelous seven angels having seven last plagues

Speaker#1:
00:50:23.85 – 00:50:51.57
Ok I gotta just say their their his definition is so different than the way we think I saw a great and marvelous sign seven angels carrying plagues right For in them the wrath of God is complete And I saw something like a sea of glass mingle with fire and those who have the victory over the beast and over his image and over his mark and over his number of his name standing on the sea of glass

Speaker#1:
00:50:52.11 – 00:51:07.0
I want to be part of those people that have victory over the beast and over his mark and over his name What do those people look like What are they doing What are they about What is the secret to being that kind of people

Speaker#1:
00:51:09.05 – 00:51:10.159
They have harps

Speaker#1:
00:51:13.27 – 00:51:14.84
maybe guitars I don’t know

Speaker#1:
00:51:16.02 – 00:51:17.02
Pianos

Speaker#1:
00:51:17.83 – 00:51:18.85
symbols

Speaker#1:
00:51:19.479 – 00:51:20.719
tambourines

Speaker#1:
00:51:24.129 – 00:51:25.02
They sing

Speaker#1:
00:51:27.03 – 00:51:28.989
they sing the song of Moses

Speaker#1:
00:51:29.51 – 00:51:32.1
the servant of God in the song of the lamb

Speaker#1:
00:51:33.169 – 00:51:47.479
The people who overcome the beast the people who overcome his mark and his name The Over Commers the great army of over Commers they have harps in their singing

Speaker#1:
00:51:49.36 – 00:52:09.12
Maybe you can’t overcome unless you’re singing the song of Moses and the song of the lamb Maybe that’s the old and new covenant combined But you see what I’m saying the song of Moses When you fall into captivity you’ve gotten so far away and you’ve totally lost a plot and you screwed up really bad

Speaker#1:
00:52:09.739 – 00:52:11.469
You’ll remember the song

Speaker#1:
00:52:12.239 – 00:52:17.54
and this song will remind you that this is the man whose sins are forgiven

Speaker#1:
00:52:18.25 – 00:52:20.33
whose transgressions are covered

Speaker#1:
00:52:22.08 – 00:52:24.739
It never loses its importance

Speaker#1:
00:52:26.3 – 00:52:28.57
It never loses its importance

Speaker#1:
00:52:30.219 – 00:52:36.419
We can’t have the Holy Spirit We can’t sing the song of the lamb If it wasn’t for Calvary

Speaker#1:
00:52:37.409 – 00:52:42.409
we can’t sing the song of the lamb If our sins were not covered

Speaker#1:
00:52:43.05 – 00:52:49.389
Remember what we read about the new covenant I will remember your sins no more

Speaker#1:
00:52:50.56 – 00:52:51.659
You can never

Speaker#1:
00:52:52.189 – 00:52:53.78
that never ends

Speaker#1:
00:52:55.179 – 00:52:59.879
I am giving this whole new covenant because I first chose to forget

Speaker#1:
00:53:00.439 – 00:53:01.56
your sins

Speaker#1:
00:53:02.12 – 00:53:14.76
and remember my promises to you Remember my promises to your fathers I’ve chose to remember what’s good about you I’ve chosen to remember what I love and I delight in

Speaker#1:
00:53:15.76 – 00:53:18.79
I’ve chosen I don’t know why to count every hair on your head

Speaker#1:
00:53:19.709 – 00:53:20.81
I’ve chosen

Speaker#1:
00:53:22.29 – 00:53:24.0
to observe you fully

Speaker#1:
00:53:25.1 – 00:53:35.689
24 hours a day 365 days a year God like things about you God is watching you 365 days a year

Speaker#1:
00:53:36.239 – 00:53:39.57
He’s watching you 24 7 How does that make you feel

Speaker#1:
00:53:41.409 – 00:53:45.479
It says I watch you like that and I sing over you

Speaker#1:
00:53:46.1 – 00:53:51.129
I rejoice over you God How can you do that I have forgotten

Speaker#1:
00:53:51.78 – 00:53:52.79
your sins

Speaker#1:
00:53:54.489 – 00:54:11.959
I have forgotten your sins I remember them no more And I remember what is good The song of Moses and now the song of the lamb receive the Holy Spirit receive power from on high Do not quench the Holy Spirit of God

Speaker#1:
00:54:13.219 – 00:54:16.949
Wow it’s exciting isn’t it the great overcoming tribe

Speaker#1:
00:54:22.479 – 00:54:26.889
So what we saw is that God’s word reveals the heart of God to us

Speaker#1:
00:54:28.27 – 00:54:30.389
so that we can reveal it in the world

Speaker#1:
00:54:31.409 – 00:54:37.419
It enlightens us so we can bring light to the world and destroy every form of darkness There is

Speaker#1:
00:54:38.409 – 00:54:39.8
we got a belief

Speaker#1:
00:54:41.669 – 00:54:46.669
not unbelievers God passionately loves us and sings to us

Speaker#1:
00:54:47.189 – 00:54:50.82
because of what He chooses to remember and what he chooses to forget

Speaker#1:
00:54:52.719 – 00:54:57.02
The transformation of the world begins by purifying the church

Speaker#1:
00:54:59.669 – 00:55:07.79
The purification of the church comes through the power of the Holy Spirit through the atonement and then the power of the Holy Spirit transform lives

Speaker#1:
00:55:08.649 – 00:55:14.83
what we remember and forget in the songs we sing rooted in our revelation of God will transform the world

Speaker#1:
