I’m Pastor Dwaine of Life Springs Christian Church. In a recent message titled “God’s Strength in You: More Powerful Than You Think,” I wanted to encourage you: the anointing of God inside you is greater than you realize. This is a word for the body of Christ — imperfect, growing, and called to restore human flourishing through the life of Jesus. Below I unpack the main truths I shared, illustrated with Scripture and practical next steps so you can be strengthened in the Lord and used for His kingdom.

Outline

  • God’s commitment to the body of Christ
  • The body of Christ is imperfect but powerful together
  • We are new creatures — clothed with power from on high
  • Lessons from Numbers 11: God provides help in our present need
  • David’s example (1 Samuel 30): strengthen yourself in the Lord
  • Practical application: how to be strengthened and used

Introduction: A Word of Encouragement

You may be quiet today — that’s okay. Quiet can mean attentive and expectant. God often works in ways faster than we can see: quicker than sound, quicker than light. When the body of Christ prays, when one part grows, everyone benefits. You are a joint-heir with Christ; what someone prays for in one place becomes a blessing you receive in another. So don’t minimize what God has placed inside of you. You’re more powerful than you think. Amen.

God’s Commitment to the Body of Christ

God is committed to His people. He doesn’t abandon us, even when we stumble, complain, or fall short. He equips the church — not to make us proud, but to accomplish things that human effort alone cannot do. The ministry of the Spirit is meant to be shared: the gifts, the insight, the strength are given so the whole body thrives.

Key Scriptures

I leaned on several passages to drive this home:

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 — “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old has passed away, behold the new has come.”
  • Luke 24:49 — Jesus: “Stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
  • Psalm 46:1 — “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

The Body of Christ Is Imperfect — And That’s Part of God’s Plan

We are not perfect people; we’re becoming people. God uses imperfect people to show His perfect strength. The church is not called to condemn or manipulate; we are called to love, to restore, and to demonstrate the grace we’ve received. When one member is weak, another strengthens them. When one member prays, the whole body benefits. This mutual dependency is the design of God’s family.

Restore Human Flourishing

Our mission at Life Springs is to restore human flourishing by reproducing the life of Christ among imperfect people. That includes showing practical love: feeding the hungry, praying for leaders, counseling the broken, and demonstrating the gospel in action. Healing and transformation often begin with small acts of faithfulness — a prayer, a visit, a shared burden.

The Power of Prayer and the Promise of the Spirit

Prayer aligns us with heaven. We are commanded to pray for our government and for those in authority — not as political pawns but as a spiritual responsibility that brings favor and opens doors. More importantly, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit. He told His disciples to wait to be clothed with power from on high. That promise still stands: we are to be people who rely on the Spirit’s power above all.

Numbers 11: God Provides Help in Our Present Need

The story of Moses and the 70 elders in Numbers 11 shows God’s heart for providing help when leaders are overwhelmed. Moses was exhausted by the people’s complaints. God took “some of the spirit” on Moses and put it on the 70 elders so Moses would receive help. Even when people complained and God’s people failed, God supplied what was needed.

Two men, Eldad and Medad, ended up prophesying in the camp — outside the expected place — showing that God’s Spirit often moves beyond our patterns and expectations. Even when we don’t get everything right, God still brings help. He is faithful to the mission and to His people.

David at Ziklag (1 Samuel 30): Strengthen Yourself in the Lord

David’s story in 1 Samuel 30 is a powerful example of personal and corporate recovery. After the Amalekites raided Ziklag and took the wives and children, David’s men were so bitter they talked about stoning him. David did not react in the flesh. Instead, he strengthened himself in the Lord.

Here are the practical steps David took that we can imitate:

  • He remembered God’s past faithfulness — history of God’s help gave him courage.
  • He sought God formally — by consulting the priest and the ephod (seeking God’s guidance).
  • He acted on the Lord’s direction — God said, “Pursue,” and David obeyed.
  • When they found an exhausted Egyptian who had been abandoned, David showed compassion: food, water, and care. That unexpected encounter provided the intelligence and the means to win back everything that was lost.

The takeaways: seek God first, strengthen yourself in the Lord when you’re in distress, and trust that God can use the smallest, most unlikely moments for victory. Victory is often communal — what God gives to one person becomes a blessing for many.

Embracing Your Power — You Are More Powerful Than You Think

Don’t walk out of here doubting your significance. The Spirit in you is made for good. Your giftings, prayers, and acts of love ripple out. Whether it’s a healed body part, paid bill, healed relationship, or a child restored — God’s power is practical and everyday.

If fear or embarrassment has held you back, remember: God’s love for you is deeper than any human love. He loves you in ways others cannot. When you’re strengthened by God, you think clearly and move wisely. You won’t always be flawless — none of us are — but God is faithful to use you anyway.

Practical Steps to Be Strengthened

  1. Speak Scripture over your life. Say Psalm 46:1 aloud: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
  2. Seek the Lord before acting. Like David, ask God for specific direction.
  3. Engage in the body — give and receive help. Don’t isolate; your victory is connected to others.
  4. Show practical love. Feed, care for, and pray for the people you encounter. Small acts can lead to large spiritual outcomes.
  5. Remind yourself: you are new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) and meant to be clothed with power (Luke 24:49).

Connection of Our Victories

Our wins are linked. What God does in one life often becomes the means for another’s blessing. When the body moves in unity — praying, giving, serving — the world begins to see God’s transformative power. Even our failures can be redeemed and used for the kingdom if we run to the Lord and allow Him to work.

Conclusion: Trust God’s Commitment to You

God is committed to His people. He equips us, shares His Spirit, and brings help in our present needs. Your situation is never too small or too messy for God to use it to heal others and to glorify Him. Strengthen yourself in the Lord. Seek His counsel. Be willing to be used. Walk in the reality that the anointing on you is more powerful than you think.

If this word encouraged you, carry Psalm 46:1 with you this week. Speak it, believe it, and let the Spirit move. God is faithful — He will provide, guide, and restore. Glory to God.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Amen. We love you, Life Springs family. Be strengthened and go serve the world with the love and power Jesus gives.
