Understanding Christ’s Inheritance: A Call to Action

The concept of Christ’s inheritance is often misunderstood, with many viewing it through an individualistic lens. However, understanding Christ’s inheritance requires us to connect with God’s work in the world today. This connection is crucial, especially as we find ourselves in a cultural and spiritual civil war.

The Decline of Light in the West

We are witnessing a sunset in the West—a metaphorical decline of the light and blessings that stemmed from a rich tradition of Christian faith. This light, once brightened by the death and resurrection of Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, is now fading. The question we face is whether this decline is inevitable or if there’s a way to reignite the light.

It’s imperative for believers to remain informed about global events, enough to cultivate a burden but not to the point of losing hope. Our challenge is to preserve the inheritance God has blessed us with and pass it on to future generations without becoming despondent.

Turning the Light Back On

As darkness grows, we must ask ourselves: why not simply turn the light back on? When we stumble in the dark, it’s our responsibility to illuminate our path. This notion is deeply connected to Christ’s inheritance and our role in the world.

The church must raise its morale to win the war of faith. Victory often hinges on the morale of the people, and the same applies to our spiritual battles. We must believe in the worthiness of our cause and our ability to succeed.

Psalm 2: A Blueprint for Victory

Psalm 2 provides a perspective on the spiritual warfare we face. It depicts a world in rebellion against God but reminds us that their efforts are in vain because Jesus is King. The psalmist’s perspective is crucial for us today, as it reinforces the futility of the world’s rebellion when faced with Christ’s sovereignty.

Acts chapters 3 and 4 illustrate this point further. Peter and John’s daily routine of prayer led to a divine encounter—a miraculous healing that drew crowds and attention. Despite opposition from authorities, they remained steadfast, preaching boldly in Jesus’ name.

The Role of Signs and Wonders

Miracles and signs are not about proving God’s existence but about demonstrating His love. They open doors for the gospel to reach those who might otherwise be indifferent. The early church understood this and prayed for boldness and divine intervention.

We need similar boldness today. Preaching the word with God’s power backing us up through signs and wonders can transform our culture. We must ask, seek, and knock for this divine assistance, realizing that we cannot achieve these miracles through human effort alone.

The Kingdom of God and True Humanity

God’s kingdom brings righteousness, peace, and joy. Being truly human means experiencing these qualities and living them out in our communities. Our faith should manifest in genuine enjoyment of life, laughter, and celebration.

Our faith community must be alive and vibrant, reflecting the kingdom of God. If we’re too rigid or legalistic, we risk missing the essence of the kingdom and failing to attract others to Christ.

The Inheritance of Nations

Christ’s inheritance is the nations, as promised in Psalm 2:7-8. This inheritance is not just about individuals reaching heaven but about bringing entire nations under Christ’s reign. This vision challenges the modern church’s often limited understanding of God’s kingdom.

The early church grasped this concept, viewing themselves as instruments through which Christ’s kingdom would expand. We are called to be the light that dispels darkness, to be the hands and feet of Christ in a world that resists His reign.

Engaging in Spiritual Warfare

Our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. This warfare requires us to be spiritually equipped, enduring hardships as soldiers of Christ. We must remain vigilant and not fall into complacency.

By building up the church, we can turn the light back on in the world. This involves fostering genuine relationships and creating life-giving communities that reflect Christ’s love and truth.

The Power of Prayer and Community

Prayer is our most potent weapon in spiritual warfare. Through prayer, we seek God’s intervention, boldness to preach, and the manifestation of His power. Our prayers should focus on building up the church and transforming the world through Christ’s love.

Building one another up in faith is crucial. When the church shines brightly, it naturally draws others to Christ. We must strive to be a beacon of hope, love, and authenticity in a world that desperately needs it.

Conclusion: Our Call to Action

We are the light of the world, tasked with turning the lights back on in a time of darkness. By building up the church and living out the gospel, we can fulfill our role in Christ’s inheritance of the nations. Let us pray for boldness, seek the Holy Spirit’s power, and work together to bring God’s kingdom to earth.

This is our inheritance and our calling: to be agents of transformation, bringing hope and light to the world. Let’s embrace this mission with joy and determination, trusting in God’s promises and His power to bring about change.
