Religion is Comfortable but Faith is a Call to Greatness

In our journey of faith, we often find ourselves confronted with two distinct paths: the comfortable road of religion and the challenging ascent of faith. It’s essential to understand that while religion may provide a sense of security, faith calls us to greatness, urging us to rise above our limitations and embrace the extraordinary plans God has for us. This journey is not just about personal growth; it’s about transforming our mindset and stepping into the divine purpose laid out for us.

Reflecting on Personal Transformation

Let’s take a moment to reflect on a personal story that illustrates this journey. Many years ago, I found myself in a dire situation, arrested and brought to a police station. It was a low point in my life, marked by poor choices and a belief that I was destined for failure. With a seventh or eighth-grade education, I had been labeled as a loser, incapable of achieving anything meaningful. But God had other plans.

As I sat there, Sheriff Frank, a man of influence, came around and recognized me. Instead of condemning me, he chose to pay my fine, a gesture that would eventually lead to a life-changing moment. This act of kindness was a divine spark that ignited a transformation within me. In that moment, I realized that my past did not dictate my future.

After that incident, I made a pivotal decision to seek God. I stepped into a church and gave my heart to the Lord. Instantly, I felt the chains of addiction to alcohol and cigarettes fall away. I began to receive dreams and visions from God—an invitation to rise from the muck and mire of my past and step into a new destiny.

The Power of a Growth Mindset

As I embarked on this journey, I learned that change requires action. I call this the divine spark—the moment when you realize that you are not destined to be a loser. Instead, you are called to greatness. This is a critical point: your mindset plays a vital role in your transformation. Are you willing to embrace a growth mindset, one that views challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles?

In my earlier messages, I discussed how everything you need is already in the house—within you. Opportunities abound; you just need to recognize and seize them. The Latin word for opportunity means connection, and it’s essential to understand that motivation is the driving force behind those connections. Whether good or bad, motivation stirs us to action.

For instance, consider the biblical figure Caleb. He exemplifies a conqueror’s spirit. The scripture tells us that we are more than conquerors, and it’s crucial to grasp this truth. We can conquer our fears, doubts, and limitations when we align our mindset with God’s promises. Remember the African story about the diamonds? The man sold his farm, thinking he had to seek riches elsewhere, only to find that the largest diamonds were right beneath his feet. This serves as a reminder that often, what we seek is already within our grasp.

Faith vs. Religion: A Crucial Distinction

Now, let’s dive into the crux of the message: the distinction between religion and faith. Religion can often be comfortable. It allows us to follow rules and traditions without rocking the boat. However, faith is a call to greatness, which often requires us to step outside our comfort zones. It’s about taking risks and pursuing the unknown.

The Bible illustrates this through the story of the twelve spies sent to explore the Promised Land. Ten returned with a report filled with fear, claiming, “We are not able to go up against the people; they are stronger than we.” On the contrary, Caleb and Joshua saw the same challenges but were filled with faith, declaring that they could conquer the land. Their mindset was not fixed; it was growth-oriented, believing in God’s promises despite the obstacles.

This brings us to a fundamental question: Are you willing to embrace a growth mindset? Are you ready to take risks and trust God? A fixed mindset often leads to complacency and fear, whereas a growth mindset allows us to see beyond our current circumstances, recognizing that God is with us in every challenge.

The Importance of Relationships

Another critical aspect of faith is the relationships we build. The “house” I mentioned earlier is not just about physical structure; it encompasses our relationships, opportunities, and divine appointments. Your growth is often tied to the people you surround yourself with. Are they encouraging you to rise to your potential, or are they dragging you down?

In Numbers 14:24, God speaks about Caleb, saying, “But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring him into the land where he went.” This highlights the importance of having a different spirit—a mindset that is open to God’s leading and willing to step into the unknown.

We must also remember that faith is not passive; it requires action. James 2:26 states, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” This means that true faith manifests through our actions. We cannot sit idly by and expect things to change. Instead, we must actively pursue the dreams and visions God has placed in our hearts.

Overcoming the Fear of Failure

Fear often holds us back from pursuing our potential. We’ve all heard the saying, “What if I fail?” But let me ask you this: What if you succeed? What if the very thing you fear is the stepping stone to your greatest victory? The ten spies were fearful and chose to play it safe, while Caleb and Joshua were willing to take risks, believing that God would be with them.

Procrastination is another enemy of progress. It keeps us stuck in a cycle of inaction. The third demon in a parable I shared earlier suggested that instead of changing beliefs, they would encourage people to procrastinate. This is a powerful insight—when we put off our faith and the actions it requires, we lose out on the blessings that await us.

We must be proactive in our faith journey, confronting our fears and taking steps forward, even when it feels uncomfortable. Remember, growth often comes through adversity. Embrace the challenges, for they are shaping you into a stronger person.

Embracing a New Identity in Christ

As we close, let’s reflect on our identity in Christ. When we accept Jesus, we are given a new name, a new purpose. Just like Joshua, whose name was changed to signify a new identity, we too must embrace who we are in Christ. Our past does not define us; our future is bright because of Him.

This journey is not just about individual transformation; it’s about how we can impact others. As we rise to our potential, we become vessels of God’s love and grace, reaching out to those who feel lost and hopeless. Our faith journey is not just for us; it’s a call to make a difference in the lives of others.

In conclusion, let’s remember that religion may be comfortable, but faith is a call to greatness. It challenges us to rise above our circumstances, embrace growth, and step into the divine purpose God has for our lives. Let’s commit to seeking Him daily, believing in His promises, and taking action toward the dreams He has placed in our hearts. Together, we can transform our lives and the world around us.
